1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.1 Now after this, the children of Moab and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Meunim, made war against Jehoshaphat.1 그 후에 모압 자손과 암몬 자손이 몇 마온 사람과 함께 와서 여호사밧을 치고자 한지라
2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.2 And they came to Jehoshaphat with the news, saying, A great army is moving against you from Edom across the sea; and now they are in Hazazon-tamar (which is En-gedi).2 혹이 와서 여호사밧에게 고하여 가로되 큰 무리가 바다 저편 아람에서 왕을 치러 오는데 이제 하사손다말 곧 엔게디에 있나이다
3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.3 Then Jehoshaphat, in his fear, went to the Lord for directions, and gave orders all through Judah for the people to go without food.3 여호사밧이 두려워하여 여호와께로 낯을 향하여 간구하고 온 유다 백성에게 금식하라 공포하매
4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.4 And Judah came together to make prayer for help from the Lord; from every town of Judah they came to give worship to the Lord.4 유다 사람이 여호와께 도우심을 구하려 하여 유다 모든 성읍에서 모여와서 여호와께 간구하더라
5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,5 And Jehoshaphat took his place in the meeting of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord in front of the new open space,5 여호사밧이 여호와의 전 새 뜰 앞에서 유다와 예루살렘의 회중 가운데 서서
6 And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?6 And said, O Lord, the God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? are you not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? and in your hands are power and strength so that no one is able to keep his place against you.6 가로되 우리 열조의 하나님 여호와여 주는 하늘에서 하나님이 아니시니이까 이방 사람의 모든 나라를 다스리지 아니하시나이까 주의 손에 권세와 능력이 있사오니 능히 막을 사람이 없나이다
7 Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?7 Did you not, O Lord our God, after driving out the people of this land before your people Israel, give it to the seed of Abraham, your friend, for ever?7 우리 하나님이시여 전에 이 땅 거민을 주의 백성 이스라엘 앞에서 쫓아내시고 그 땅으로 주의 벗 아브라함의 자손에게 영영히 주지 아니하셨나이까
8 And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,8 And they made it their living-place, building there a holy house for your name, and saying,8 저희가 이 땅에 거하여 주의 이름을 위하여 한 성소를 건축하고 이르기를
9 If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.9 If evil comes on us, the sword, or punishment, or disease, or need of food, we will come to this house and to you, (for your name is in this house,) crying to you in our trouble, and you will give us salvation in answer to our cry.9 만일 재앙이나 난리나 견책이나 온역이나 기근이 우리에게 임하면 주의 이름이 이 전에 있으니 우리가 이 전 앞과 주의 앞에 서서 이 환난 가운데서 주께 부르짖은즉 들으시고 구원하시리라 하였나이다
10 And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;10 And now, see, the children of Ammon and Moab and the people of Mount Seir, whom you kept Israel from attacking when they came out of Egypt, so that turning to one side they did not send destruction on them:10 옛적에 이스라엘이 애굽 땅에서 나올 때에 암몬 자손과 모압 자손과 세일산 사람을 침노하기를 주께서 용납하지 아니하시므로 이에 치우쳐 저희를 떠나고 멸하지 아니하였거늘
11 Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.11 See now, how as our reward they have come to send us out of your land which you have given us as our heritage.11 이제 저희가 우리에게 갚는 것을 보옵소서 저희가 와서 주께서 우리에게 주신 주의 기업에서 우리를 쫓아 내고자 하나이다
12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.12 O our God, will you not be their judge? for our strength is not equal to this great army which is coming against us; and we are at a loss what to do: but our eyes are on you.12 우리 하나님이여 저희를 징벌하지 아니하시나이까 우리를 치러 오는 이 큰 무리를 우리가 대적할 능력이 없고 어떻게 할줄도 알지 못하옵고 오직 주만 바라보나이다 하고
13 And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.13 And all Judah were waiting before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.13 유다 모든 사람은 그 아내와 자녀와 어린 자로 더불어 여호와 앞에 섰더라
14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;14 Then, before all the meeting, the spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel, the son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite and one of the family of Asaph;14 여호와의 신이 회중 가운데서 레위 사람 야하시엘에게 임하셨으니 저는 아삽 자손 맛다냐의 현손이요 여이엘의 증손이요 브나야의 손자요 스가랴의 아들이더라
15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.15 And he said, Give ear, O Judah, and you people of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat: the Lord says to you, Have no fear and do not be troubled on account of this great army; for the fight is not yours but God's.15 야하시엘이 가로되 온 유다와 예루살렘 거민과 여호사밧왕이여 들을찌어다 여호와께서 너희에게 말씀하시기를 이 큰 무리로 인하여 두려워하거나 놀라지 말라 이 전쟁이 너희에게 속한 것이 아니요 하나님께 속한 것이니라
16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.16 Go down against them tomorrow: see, they are coming up by the slope of Ziz; at the end of the valley, before the waste land of Jeruel, you will come face to face with them.16 내일 너희는 마주 내려 가라 저희가 시스 고개로 말미암아 올라 오리니 너희가 골짜기 어귀 여루엘 들 앞에서 만나려니와
17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.17 There will be no need for you to take up arms in this fight; put yourselves in position, and keep where you are, and you will see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: have no fear and do not be troubled: go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you.17 이 전쟁에는 너희가 싸울 것이 없나니 항오를 이루고 서서 너희와 함께한 여호와가 구원하는 것을 보라 유다와 예루살렘아 너희는 두려워하며 놀라지 말고 내일 저희를 마주 나가라 여호와가 너희와 함께 하리라 하셨느니라 하매
18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.18 Then Jehoshaphat went down with his face to the earth, and all Judah and the people of Jerusalem gave worship to the Lord, falling down before him.18 여호사밧이 몸을 굽혀 얼굴을 땅에 대니 온 유다와 예루살렘 거민들도 여호와 앞에 엎드려 경배하고
19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.19 And the Levites, the children of the Kohathites and the Korahites, got to their feet and gave praise to the Lord, the God of Israel, with a loud voice.19 그핫 자손과 고라 자손에게 속한 레위 사람들은 서서 심히 큰 소리로 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 찬송하니라
20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.20 And early in the morning they got up and went out to the waste land of Tekoa: and when they were going out, Jehoshaphat took his station and said to them, Give ear to me, O Judah and you people of Jerusalem: have faith in the Lord your God and you will be safe; have faith in his prophets and all will go well for you.20 이에 백성들이 일찌기 일어나서 드고아 들로 나가니라 나갈 때에 여호사밧이 서서 가로되 유다와 예루살렘 거민들아 내 말을 들을찌어다 너희는 너희 하나님 여호와를 신뢰하라 그리하면 견고히 서리라 그 선지자를 신뢰하라 그리하면 형통하리라 하고
21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.21 And after discussion with the people, he put in their places those who were to make melody to the Lord, praising him in holy robes, while they went at the head of the army, and saying, May the Lord be praised, for his mercy is unchanging for ever.21 백성으로 더불어 의논하고 노래하는 자를 택하여 거룩한 예복을 입히고 군대 앞에서 행하며 여호와를 찬송하여 이르기를 여호와께 감사하세 그 자비하심이 영원하도다 하게 하였더니
22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.22 And at the first notes of song and praise the Lord sent a surprise attack against the children of Ammon and Moab and the people of Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were overcome.22 그 노래와 찬송이 시작될 때에 여호와께서 복병을 두어 유다를 치러 온 암몬 자손과 모압과 세일산 사람을 치게 하시므로 저희가 패하였으니
23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.23 And the children of Ammon and Moab made an attack on the people of Mount Seir with a view to their complete destruction; and when they had put an end to the people of Seir, everyman's hand was turned against his neighbour for his destruction.23 곧 암몬과 모압 자손이 일어나 세일산 거민을 쳐서 진멸하고 세일 거민을 멸한 후에는 저희가 피차에 살륙하였더라
24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower ㆍ in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.24 And Judah came to the watchtower of the waste land, and looking in the direction of the army, they saw only dead bodies stretched on the earth; no living man was to be seen.24 유다 사람이 들 망대에 이르러 그 무리를 본즉 땅에 엎드러진 시체뿐이요 하나도 피한 자가 없는지라
25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their goods from them, they saw beasts in great numbers, and wealth and clothing and things of value, more than they were able to take away; all this they took for themselves, and they were three days getting it away, there was so much.25 여호사밧과 그 백성이 가서 적군의 물건을 취할쌔 본즉 그 가운데에 재물과 의복과 보물이 많이 있는 고로 각기 취하는데 그 물건이 너무 많아 능히 가져갈 수 없을만큼 많으므로 사흘 동안에 취하고
26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.26 On the fourth day they all came together in the Valley of Blessing, and there they gave blessing to the Lord; for which cause that place has been named the Valley of Blessing to this day.26 제 사일에 무리가 브라가 골짜기에 모여서 거기서 여호와를 송축한지라 그러므로 오늘날까지 그곳을 브라가 골짜기라 일컫더라
27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.27 Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem went back, with Jehoshaphat at their head, coming back to Jerusalem with joy; for the Lord had made them glad over their haters.27 유다와 예루살렘 모든 사람이 여호사밧을 선두로 즐거이 예루살렘으로 돌아왔으니 이는 여호와께서 저희로 그 적군을 이김을 인하여 즐거워하게 하셨음이라
28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.28 So they came to Jerusalem with corded instruments and wind-instruments into the house of the Lord.28 무리가 비파와 수금과 나팔을 합주하고 예루살렘에 이르러 여호와의 전에 나아가니라
29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.29 And the fear of God came on all the kingdoms of the lands, when they had news of how the Lord made war on those who came against Israel.29 이방 모든 나라가 여호와께서 이스라엘의 적군을 치셨다 함을 듣고 하나님을 두려워한고로
30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.30 So the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for the Lord gave him rest on every side.30 여호사밧의 나라가 태평하였으니 이는 그 하나님이 사방에서 저희에게 평강을 주셨음이더라
31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.31 And Jehoshaphat was king over Judah: he was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he was ruling for twenty-five years in Jerusalem: his mother's name was Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi.31 여호사밧이 유다 왕이 되어 위에 나아갈 때에 나이 삼십 오세라 예루살렘에서 이십 오년을 치리하니라 그 모친의 이름은 아수바라 실히의 딸이더라
32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.32 He went in the ways of his father Asa, not turning away, but doing right in the eyes of the Lord.32 여호사밧이 그 부친 아사의 길로 행하여 돌이켜 떠나지 아니하고 여호와 보시기에 정직히 행하였으나
33 Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.33 The high places, however, were not taken away, and the hearts of the people were still not true to the God of their fathers.33 산당은 폐하지 아니하였으므로 백성이 오히려 마음을 정하여 그 열조의 하나님께로 돌아오지 아니하였더라
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.34 Now as for the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, they are recorded in the words of Jehu, the son of Hanani, which were put in the book of the kings of Israel.34 이 외에 여호사밧의 시종 행적이 하나니의 아들 예후의 글에 다 기록되었고 그 글은 이스라엘 열왕기에 올랐더라
35 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:35 After this Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, became friends with Ahaziah, king of Israel, who did much evil:35 유다 왕 여호사밧이 나중에 이스라엘 왕 아하시야와 교제하였는데 아하시야는 심히 악을 행하는 자이었더라
36 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongaber.36 Together they made ships to go to Tarshish, building them in Ezion-geber.36 두 왕이 서로 결합하고 배를 지어 다시스로 보내고자 하여 에시온게벨에서 배를 지었더니
37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.37 Then the word of Eliezer the prophet, the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah, came against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because you have let yourself be joined with Ahaziah, the Lord has sent destruction on your works. And the ships were broken and were not able to go to Tarshish.37 마레사 사람 도다와후의 아들 엘리에셀이 여호사밧을 향하여 예언하여 가로되 왕이 아하시야와 교제하는고로 여호와께서 왕의 지은 것을 파하시리라 하더니 이에 그 배가 파상하여 다시스로 가지 못하였더라
