1 And Rehoboamwent to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israelcome to make him king.[x]MKJV: And Rehoboam went to Shechem. For all Israel had come [to] Shechem to make him king. BBE: And Rehoboam went to Shechem, where all Israel had come together to make him king. KAV: 르호보암이 세겜으로 갔으니 이는 온 이스라엘이 그를 왕으로 삼으려고 세겜에 이르렀기 때문이더라.

1 르호보암이 세겜으로 갔으니 이는 온 이스라엘이 저로 왕을 삼고자 하여 세겜에 이르렀음이더라
2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heardit, that Jeroboamreturned out of Egypt.[x]MKJV: And it happened when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who [was] in Egypt where he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard [it], Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. BBE: And when Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, had news of it, (for he was in Egypt where he had gone in flight from King Solomon,) he came back from Egypt. KAV: 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 전에 솔로몬 왕의 앞을 떠나 이집트로 도망하여 거기 있다가 그 소식을 듣고 이집트에서 나와 돌아오매
2 And when Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, had news of it, (for he was in Egypt where he had gone in flight from King Solomon,) he came back from Egypt.
2 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 전에 솔로몬왕의 얼굴을 피하여 애굽으로 도망하여 있었더니 이 일을 듣고 애굽에서부터 돌아오매
3 And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israelcame and spake to Rehoboam, saying,[x]MKJV: And they sent and called him. 3 And they sent for him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came to Rehoboam and said,
3 무리가 보내어 저를 불렀더라 여로보암과 온 이스라엘이 와서 르호보암에게 고하여 가로되
4 Thy father made our yokegrievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievousservitude of thy father, and his heavyyoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.[x]MKJV: Your father made our yoke heavy. And now lighten the heavy service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you. BBE: Your father put a hard yoke on us: if you will make the conditions under which your father kept us down less cruel, and the weight of the yoke he put on us less hard, then we will be your servants. KAV: 왕의 아버지가 우리의 멍에를 고통스럽게 하였사오니 그러므로 이제 왕은 왕의 아버지가 우리에게 지워 준 고통스런 노역과 또 그의 무거운 멍에를 조금 편하게 하소서. 그리하시면 우리가 왕을 섬기겠나이다, 하니
4 Your father put a hard yoke on us: if you will make the conditions under which your father kept us down less cruel, and the weight of the yoke he put on us less hard, then we will be your servants.
4 왕의 부친이 우리의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 왕은 이제 왕의 부친이 우리에게 시킨 고역과 메운 무거운 멍에를 가볍게 하소서 그리하시면 우리가 왕을 섬기겠나이다
5 And he said unto them, Come again unto me after threedays. And the peopledeparted.[x]MKJV: And he said to them, Come again to me after three days. And the people departed. BBE: And he said to them, Come to me again after three days. So the people went away. KAV: 르호보암이 그들에게 이르되, 사흘 뒤에 다시 내게로 오라, 하매 백성이 떠나가니라.

6 And kingRehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stoodbeforeSolomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to returnanswer to this people?[x]MKJV: And King Rehoboam consulted with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What advice do you give [me] to return answer to this people? BBE: Then King Rehoboam took the opinion of the old men who had been with Solomon his father when he was living, and said, In your opinion, what answer am I to give to this people? KAV: ¶ 르호보암 왕이 자기 아버지 솔로몬이 아직 살아 있을 때에 그 앞에 섰던 노인들과 의논하여 이르되, 너희는 이 백성에게 대답하도록 내게 어떤 권고를 주겠느냐? 하니
6 Then King Rehoboam took the opinion of the old men who had been with Solomon his father when he was living, and said, In your opinion, what answer am I to give to this people?
6 르호보암왕이 그 부친 솔로몬의 생전에 그 앞에 모셨던 노인들과 의논하여 가로되 너희는 어떻게 교도하여 이 백성에게 대답하게 하겠느뇨
7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speakgoodwords to them, they will be thy servants for ever.[x]MKJV: And they spoke to him saying, If you are kind to this people and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be your servants forever. BBE: And they said to him, If you are kind to this people, pleasing them and saying good words to them, then they will be your servants for ever. KAV: 그들이 그에게 말하여 이르되, 왕이 만일 이 백성에게 친절히 대하며 그들을 기쁘게 하고 그들에게 좋은 말로 이르시면 그들이 영원토록 왕의 종이 되리이다, 하니라.
7 And they said to him, If you are kind to this people, pleasing them and saying good words to them, then they will be your servants for ever.
7 대답하여 가로되 왕이 만일 이 백성을 후대하여 기쁘게하고 선한 말을 하시면 저희가 영영히 왕의 종이 되리이다 하나
8 But he forsook the counsel which the old mengave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stoodbefore him.[x]MKJV: But he departed from the advice which the old men gave him and listened to the young men who were brought up with him, who stood before him. BBE: But he gave no attention to the opinion of the old men, but went to the young men of his generation who were waiting before him. KAV: 그러나 왕이 노인들이 자기에게 준 권고를 버리고 자기 앞에 서 있던 자들 곧 자기와 함께하며 자라난 청년들과 의논하여

9 And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may returnanswer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?[x]MKJV: And he said to them, What advice do you give that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Lighten the yoke which your father put on us? BBE: And he said to them, What is your opinion? What answer are we to give to this people who have said to me, Make less the weight of the yoke which your father put on us? KAV: 그들에게 이르되, 너희는 우리가 이 백성에게 대답하도록 어떤 조언을 주겠느냐? 백성이 내게 말하여 이르기를, 왕의 아버지가 우리에게 지워 준 멍에를 조금 편하게 하소서, 하였느니라, 하매
9 And he said to them, What is your opinion? What answer are we to give to this people who have said to me, Make less the weight of the yoke which your father put on us?
9 가로되 너희는 어떻게 교도하여 이 백성에게 대답하게 하겠느뇨 백성이 내게 말하기를 왕의 부친이 우리에게 메운 멍에를 가볍게 하라 하였느니라
10 And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy fathermade our yokeheavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My littlefinger shall be thicker than my father'sloins.[x]MKJV: And the young men who were brought up with him spoke to him saying, In this way shall you answer the people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten our yoke, this you shall say to them, My little [finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. BBE: And the young men of his generation said to him, This is the answer to give to the people who came to you saying, Your father put a hard yoke on us, but will you make it less; say to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's body; KAV: 그와 함께하며 자라난 청년들이 그에게 말하여 이르되, 백성이 왕께 아뢰어 이르기를, 왕의 아버지가 우리의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 왕은 우리를 위해 그것을 조금 가볍게 하소서, 하였은즉 왕은 이같이 그들에게 대답하고 이같이 그들에게 이르기를, 내 새끼손가락이 내 아버지의 허리보다 굵으리니
10 And the young men of his generation said to him, This is the answer to give to the people who came to you saying, Your father put a hard yoke on us, but will you make it less; say to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's body;
10 함께 자라난 소년들이 왕께 고하여 가로되 이 백성들이 왕께 고하기를 왕의 부친이 우리의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 왕은 우리를 위하여 가볍게 하라 하였은즉 왕은 대답하시기를 나의 새끼손가락이 내 부친의 허리보다 굵으니
11 For whereas my fatherput a heavyyoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my fatherchastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.[x]MKJV: And now my father put a heavy yoke on you, and I will surely add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions. BBE: If my father put a hard yoke on you, I will make it harder: my father gave you punishment with whips, but I will give you blows with snakes. KAV: 내 아버지는 너희에게 무거운 멍에를 지워 주었으나 나는 너희 멍에에 더 얹으리라. 내 아버지는 채찍으로 너희를 벌하였으나 나는 전갈로 너희를 벌하리라, 하소서, 하니라.
11 If my father put a hard yoke on you, I will make it harder: my father gave you punishment with whips, but I will give you blows with snakes.

12 So Jeroboam and all the peoplecame to Rehoboam on the thirdday, as the kingbade, saying, Come again to me on the thirdday.[x]MKJV: And Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day as the king commanded, saying, Come again to me on the third day. BBE: So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had given orders, saying, Come to me again on the third day. KAV: 왕이 명하여 이르기를, 셋째 날에 다시 내게로 오라, 하였으므로 이에 셋째 날에 여로보암과 온 백성이 르호보암에게 나아왔더라.
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had given orders, saying, Come to me again on the third day.
12 삼일만에 여로보암과 모든 백성이 르호보암에게 나아왔으니 이는 왕이 명하여 이르기를 삼일만에 내게로 다시 오라 하였음이라
13 And the kinganswered them roughly; and kingRehoboamforsook the counsel of the old men,[x]MKJV: And the king answered them roughly. And King Rehoboam departed from the advice of the old men, BBE: And the king gave them a rough answer. So King Rehoboam gave no attention to the suggestion of the old men, KAV: 왕이 그들에게 거칠게 대답하며 르호보암 왕이 노인들의 권고를 버리고

KAV: 청년들의 조언에 따라 그들에게 대답하여 이르되, 내 아버지는 너희 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 나는 거기에 더하리라. 내 아버지는 채찍으로 너희를 벌하였으나 나는 전갈로 너희를 벌하리라, 하니라.

15 So the kinghearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.[x]MKJV: And the king did not listen to the people, for [the] revolution was from God so that the LORD might perform His word which He spoke by the hand of Ahijah of Shiloh to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. BBE: So the king did not give ear to the people; for this came about by the purpose of God, so that the Lord might give effect to his word which he had said by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam, the son of Nebat. KAV: 왕이 이같이 백성의 말에 귀를 기울이지 아니하였으니 이는 그 원인이 [하나님]에게서 났기 때문이라. 이것은 {주}께서 전에 실로 사람 아히야의 손으로 느밧의 아들 여로보암에게 하신 말씀 곧 자신의 말씀을 친히 이행하려 하심이더라.
15 So the king did not give ear to the people; for this came about by the purpose of God, so that the Lord might give effect to his word which he had said by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam, the son of Nebat.
15 왕이 이같이 백성의 말을 듣지 아니하였으니 이 일은 하나님께로 말미암아 난것이라 여호와께서 전에 실로 사람 아히야로 느밧의 아들 여로보암에게 고한 말씀을 응하게 하심이더라
16 And when all Israelsaw that the king would not hearken unto them, the peopleanswered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israelwent to their tents.[x]MKJV: And all Israel [saw] that the king would not listen to them, and the people answered the king saying, What part do we have in David? And we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, O Israel! Now, David, see to your own house. And all Israel went to their tents. KAV: ¶ 왕이 자기들의 말에 귀를 기울이려 하지 아니함을 온 이스라엘이 보고 백성이 왕에게 응답하여 이르되, 다윗 안에서 우리에게 무슨 몫이 있느냐? 이새의 아들 안에서 우리에게 상속 재산이 전혀 없도다. 오 이스라엘아, 각각 너희 장막으로 가라. 다윗이여, 이제 네 집이나 돌아보라, 하고 이처럼 온 이스라엘이 자기 장막으로 가니라.
16 And when all Israel saw that the king would give no attention to them, the people in answer said to the king, What part have we in David? what is our heritage in the son of Jesse? every man to your tents, O Israel; now see to your house, David. So all Israel went to their tents.
16 온 이스라엘이 자기들의 말을 왕이 듣지 아니함을 보고 왕에게 대답하여 가로되 우리가 다윗과 무슨 관계가 있느뇨 이새의 아들에게서 업이 없도다 이스라엘아 각각 너희 장막으로 돌아가라 다윗이여 이제 너는 네 집이나 돌아보라 하고 온 이스라엘이 그 장막으로 돌아가니라
17 But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboamreigned over them.[x]MKJV: [As for] the sons of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. BBE: But Rehoboam was still king over those of the children of Israel who were living in the towns of Judah. KAV: 그러나 유다의 도시들에 거하던 이스라엘 자손으로 말하건대 르호보암이 그들을 통치하니라.

18 Then kingRehoboamsentHadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israelstoned him with stones, that he died. But kingRehoboam made speed to get him up to hischariot, to flee to Jerusalem.[x]MKJV: And King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who [was] over the forced labor. And the sons of Israel stoned him with stones so that he died. But King Rehoboam [was] warned to get up into [his] chariot to flee to Jerusalem. BBE: Then Rehoboam sent Adoniram, the overseer of the forced work; and he was stoned to death by all Israel. And King Rehoboam went quickly and got into his carriage to go in flight to Jerusalem. KAV: 그때에 르호보암 왕이 공세를 감독하던 하도람을 보내었더니 이스라엘 자손이 그를 돌로 쳐서 죽이니라. 그러나 르호보암 왕은 급히 자기 수레에 올라 예루살렘으로 도망하였더라.
18 Then Rehoboam sent Adoniram, the overseer of the forced work; and he was stoned to death by all Israel. And King Rehoboam went quickly and got into his carriage to go in flight to Jerusalem.
18 르호보암왕이 역군의 감독 하도람을 보내었더니 이스라엘 자손이 저를 돌로 쳐 죽인지라 르호보암왕이 급히 수레에 올라 예루살렘으로 도망하였더라
