1 Now the Philistines, having taken the ark of God, took it with them from Eben-ezer to Ashdod.

2 When the Philistinestook the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it byDagon.[x]MKJV: And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it beside Dagon. 2 They took the ark of God into the house of Dagon and put it by the side of Dagon.
2 블레셋 사람이 하나님의 궤를 가지고 다곤의 당에 들어가서 다곤의 곁에 두었더니
3 And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagonwasfallen upon his face to the earthbefore the ark of the LORD. And they tookDagon, and set him in his placeagain.[x]MKJV: And when those of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon [had] fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon and set him in his place again. BBE: And when the people of Ashdod got up early on the morning after, they saw that Dagon had come down to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord. 3 And when the people of Ashdod got up early on the morning after, they saw that Dagon had come down to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon up and put him in his place again.
3 아스돗 사람이 이튿날 일찌기 일어나 본즉 다곤이 여호와의 궤 앞에서 엎드러져 그 얼굴이 땅에 닿았는지라 그들이 다곤을 일으켜 다시 그 자리에 세웠더니
4 And when they arose early on the morrowmorning, behold, Dagonwasfallen upon his face to the groundbefore the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his handswere cut off upon the threshold; only the stump ofDagon was left to him.[x]MKJV: And when they arose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon [had] fallen on his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. 4 And when they got up early on the morning after, Dagon had come down to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord; and his head and his hands were broken off on the doorstep; only the base was in its place.
4 그 이튿날 아침에 그들이 일찌기 일어나 본즉 다곤이 여호와의 궤 앞에서 엎드러져 얼굴이 땅에 닿았고 그 머리와 두 손목은 끊어져 문지방에 있고 다곤의 몸둥이만 남았더라
5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon'shouse, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.[x]MKJV: And neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day. BBE: So to this day no priest of Dagon, or any who come into Dagon's house, will put his foot on the doorstep of the house of Dagon in Ashdod. 5 So to this day no priest of Dagon, or any who come into Dagon's house, will put his foot on the doorstep of the house of Dagon in Ashdod.
5 그러므로 다곤의 제사장들이나 다곤의 당에 들어가는 자는 오늘까지 아스돗에 있는 다곤의 문지방을 밟지 아니하더라
6 But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerodsㆍ, evenAshdod and the coasts thereof.[x]MKJV: And the hand of the LORD was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and He destroyed them and struck them with hemorrhoids, Ashdod and its borders. BBE: But the hand of the Lord was hard on the people of Ashdod and he sent disease on them through all the country of Ashdod. 7 And when the men of Ashdodsaw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.[x]MKJV: And the men of Ashdod saw that [it was] so. And they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not stay with us. For His hand is sore upon us and upon Dagon our god. BBE: And when the men of Ashdod saw how it was, they said, Let not the ark of the God of Israel be with us, for his hand is hard on us and on Dagon our god. 8 They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israelaboutthither.[x]MKJV: And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines to them. And they said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried around to Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel around. BBE: So they sent for all the lords of the Philistines to come together there, and said, What are we to do with the ark of the God of Israel? And their answer was, Let the ark of the God of Israel be taken away to Gath. So they took the ark of the God of Israel away. 8 So they sent for all the lords of the Philistines to come together there, and said, What are we to do with the ark of the God of Israel? And their answer was, Let the ark of the God of Israel be taken away to Gath. So they took the ark of the God of Israel away.
8 이에 보내어 블레셋 사람의 모든 방백을 모으고 가로되 우리가 이스라엘 신의 궤를 어찌할꼬 그들이 대답하되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 가드로 옮겨가라 하므로 이스라엘 신의 궤를 옮겨 갔더니
9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a verygreatdestruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerodsㆍ in their secret parts.[x]MKJV: And it happened after they had carried it around, the hand of the LORD was against the city [with] a very great destruction. And He struck the men of the city, both small and great, and hemorrhoids broke forth in them. BBE: But after they had taken it away, the hand of the Lord was stretched out against the town for its destruction: and the signs of disease came out on all the men of the town, small and great. 9 But after they had taken it away, the hand of the Lord was stretched out against the town for its destruction: and the signs of disease came out on all the men of the town, small and great.
9 그것을 옮겨간 후에 여호와의 손이 심히 큰 환난을 그 성에 더하사 성읍 사람의 작은 자와 큰 자를 다 쳐서 독종이 나게 하신지라
10 Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of Godcame to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.[x]MKJV: And it happened that they sent the ark of God [to] Ekron. And it happened as the ark of God came to Ekron, the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought around the ark of the God of Israel to us in order to kill us and our people. BBE: So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And when the ark of God came to Ekron, the people of the town made an outcry, saying, They have sent the ark of the God of Israel to us for the destruction of us and of our people. 10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And when the ark of God came to Ekron, the people of the town made an outcry, saying, They have sent the ark of the God of Israel to us for the destruction of us and of our people.

11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadlydestruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was veryheavy there.[x]MKJV: And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, so that it does not kill us and our people. For there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city. The hand of God was very heavy there. BBE: So they sent and got together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its place, so that it may not be the cause of death to us and to our people: for there was a great fear of death through all the town; the hand of God was very hard on them there. KAV: 이에 사람을 보내어 블레셋 사람들의 모든 영주를 함께 모으고 이르되, 이스라엘의 [하나님]의 궤를 보내어 그것이 그것의 본래 처소로 돌아가게 하고 그리하여 우리와 우리 백성을 죽이지 못하게 하자, 하니 이는 온 도시에 두루 치명적인 파멸이 있었으며 거기서 [하나님]의 손이 심히 엄중하였기 때문이더라. 11 So they sent and got together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its place, so that it may not be the cause of death to us and to our people: for there was a great fear of death through all the town; the hand of God was very hard on them there.
11 이에 보내어 블레셋 모든 방백을 모으고 가로되 이스라엘 신의 궤를 보내어 본처로 돌아가게 하고 우리와 우리 백성 죽임을 면케 하자 하니 이는 온 성이 사망의 환난을 당함이라 거기서 하나님의 손이 엄중하시므로
12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerodsㆍ: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.[x]MKJV: And the men that did not die were stricken with the hemorrhoids. And the cry of the city went up to the heavens. BBE: And those men who were not overtaken by death were cruelly diseased: and the cry of the town went up to heaven.
