1 And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistinesgathered their armiestogether for warfare, to fight with Israel. 1 Now in those days the Philistines got their forces together to make war on Israel. And Achish said to David, Certainly you and your men are to go out with me to the fight.

2 And Davidsaid to Achish, Surely thou shalt know what thy servant can do. 2 And David said to Achish, You will see now what your servant will do. And Achish said to David, Then I will make you keeper of my head for ever.

3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.[x]MKJV: And Samuel was dead, and all Israel had mourned him and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away the mediums and the spirit-knowers out of the land. 3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel, after weeping for him, had put his body in its last resting-place in Ramah, his town. And Saul had put away from the land all those who had control of spirits and who made use of secret arts.

4 And the Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and pitched in Shunem: and Saulgathered all Israeltogether, and they pitched in Gilboa.[x]MKJV: And the Philistines gathered themselves and came and pitched in Shunem. 4 And the Philistines came together and put their forces in position in Shunem; and Saul got all Israel together and they took up their positions in Gilboa.

5 And when Saulsaw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heartgreatlytrembled.[x]MKJV: And Saul saw the army of the Philistines, and he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. BBE: And when Saul saw the Philistine army he was troubled, and his heart was moved with fear. 5 And when Saul saw the Philistine army he was troubled, and his heart was moved with fear.

6 And when Saul went for directions to the Lord, the Lord gave him no answer, by a dream or by the Urim or by the prophets.
7 Then saidSaul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her. And his servantssaid to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.[x]MKJV: And Saul said to his servants, Seek me a woman who is] a medium, so that I may go to her and inquire of her. And his servant said to him, Behold, [there is] a woman who is] a medium, at Endor. BBE: Then Saul said to his servants, Get me a woman who has control of a spirit so that I may go to her and get directions. And his servants said to him, There is such a woman at En-dor. 7 Then Saul said to his servants, Get me a woman who has control of a spirit so that I may go to her and get directions. And his servants said to him, There is such a woman at En-dor.

8 And Sauldisguised himself, and put onotherraiment, and he went, and twomen with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me himup, whom I shall name unto thee.[x]MKJV: And Saul disguised himself and put on other clothing. And he went. And two men went with him. And they came to the woman by night. And he said, Please divine for me [calling up the dead], and bring me up the man whom I shall name to you. BBE: So Saul, putting on other clothing, so that he might not be seen to be the king, took two men with him and went to the woman by night; and he said, Now, with the help of the spirit which you have, make the person whose name I will give you come up. 8 So Saul, putting on other clothing, so that he might not be seen to be the king, took two men with him and went to the woman by night; and he said, Now, with the help of the spirit which you have, make the person whose name I will give you come up.
8 사울이 다른 옷을 입어 변장하고 두 사람과 함께 갈쌔 그들이 밤에 그 여인에게 이르러는 사울이 가로되 청하노니 나를 위하여 신접한 술법으로 내가 네게 말하는 사람을 불러올리라
9 And the womansaid unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?[x]MKJV: And the woman said to him, Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off mediums, and the spirit-knowers, out of the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die? BBE: And the woman said to him, But you have knowledge of what Saul has done, how he has put away out of the land those who have control of spirits and the users of secret arts: why would you, by a trick, put me in danger of death? KAV: 그 여인이 그에게 이르되, 보라, 네가 사울이 행한 일 곧 그가 부리는 영들을 지닌 자들과 마술사들을 이 땅에서 끊어 버린 것을 아나니 그런즉 네가 어찌하여 내 생명에 올무를 놓아 나를 죽게 하려느냐? 하매 TSK: wherefore: 2sa 18:13, 2ki 5:7
9 And the woman said to him, But you have knowledge of what Saul has done, how he has put away out of the land those who have control of spirits and the users of secret arts: why would you, by a trick, put me in danger of death?
9 여인이 그에게 이르되 네가 사울의 행한 일 곧 그가 신접한 자와 박수를 이 땅에서 멸절시켰음을 아나니 네가 어찌하여 내 생명에 올무를 놓아 나를 죽게 하려느냐
10 And Saulsware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORDliveth, there shall no punishmenthappen to thee for this thing.[x]MKJV: And Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, [As] the LORD lives, there shall no punishment happen to you for this thing. BBE: And Saul made an oath to her by the Lord, saying, By the living Lord, no punishment will come to you for this. 10 And Saul made an oath to her by the Lord, saying, By the living Lord, no punishment will come to you for this.

11 Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me upSamuel.[x]MKJV: And the woman said, Whom shall I bring up to you? And he said, Bring me up Samuel. BBE: Then the woman said, Who am I to let you see? And he said, Make Samuel come up for me. KAV: 그때에 여인이 이르되, 내가 누구를 네게로 위로 데려오랴? 하거늘 사울이 이르되, 사무엘을 나를 위해 위로 데려오라, 하니라.
11 Then the woman said, Who am I to let you see? And he said, Make Samuel come up for me.
11 여인이 가로되 내가 누구를 네게로 불러 올리랴 사울이 가로되 사무엘을 불러 올리라
12 And when the womansawSamuel, she cried with a loudvoice: and the womanspake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou artSaul.[x]MKJV: And the woman saw Samuel, and cried with a loud voice. And the woman spoke to Saul, saying, Why have you deceived me? For you [are] Saul! BBE: And the woman saw that it was Saul, and she gave a loud cry, and said to Saul, Why have you made use of deceit? for you are Saul. KAV: 여인이 사무엘을 보고는 큰 소리로 외치며 사울에게 말하여 이르되, 당신이 어찌하여 나를 속이셨나이까? 당신은 사울이시니이다, 하매 TSK: thou art Saul: 1sa 28:3, 1ki 14:5
12 And the woman saw that it was Saul, and she gave a loud cry, and said to Saul, Why have you made use of deceit? for you are Saul.
12 여인이 사무엘을 보고 큰 소리로 외치며 사울에게 말하여 가로되 당신이 어찌하여 나를 속이셨나이까 당신이 사울이시니이다
13 And the kingsaid unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the womansaid unto Saul, I sawgodsascending out of the earth.[x]MKJV: And the king said to her, Do not be afraid. For what did you see? And the woman said to Saul, I saw gods coming up out of the earth. BBE: And the king said to her, Have no fear: what do you see? And the woman said to Saul, I see a god coming up out of the earth. 13 And the king said to her, Have no fear: what do you see? And the woman said to Saul, I see a god coming up out of the earth.
13 왕이 그에게 이르되 두려워 말라 네가 무엇을 보았느냐 여인이 사울에게 이르되 내가 신이 땅에서 올라오는 것을 보았나이다
14 And he said unto her, What formis he of? And she said, An oldman cometh up; and he iscovered with a mantle. And Saulperceived that it wasSamuel, and he stooped with hisface to the ground, and bowed himself.[x]MKJV: And he said to her, What [is] his form? And she said, An old man comes up, and he is covered with a cloak. And Saul saw that it was Samuel, and [he] bowed [his] face to the ground, and prostrated himself. BBE: And he said to her, What is his form? And she said, It is an old man coming up covered with a robe. And Saul saw that it was Samuel, and with his face bent down to the earth he gave him honour. 14 And he said to her, What is his form? And she said, It is an old man coming up covered with a robe. And Saul saw that it was Samuel, and with his face bent down to the earth he gave him honour.

15 And Samuelsaid to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saulanswered, I am soredistressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither byprophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.[x]MKJV: And Samuel said to Saul, Why have you disturbed me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am grievously distressed, for the Philistines are warring against me. And God has left me and does not answer me any more, neither by prophets nor by dreams. And I have called you so that you may make known to me what I should do. BBE: And Samuel said to Saul, Why have you made me come up, troubling my rest? And Saul in answer said, I am in great danger; for the Philistines are making war on me, and God has gone away from me and will no longer give me any answer, by the prophets or by dreams: so I have sent for you to make clear to me what I am to do. KAV: ¶ 사무엘이 사울에게 이르되, 네가 어찌하여 나를 위로 데려가려고 나를 요동시키느냐? 하니 사울이 대답하되, 내가 심히 곤궁하나이다. 블레셋 사람들은 나를 치려고 싸움을 일으켰고 [하나님]은 내게서 떠나사 다시는 대언자로도 꿈으로도 내게 대답하지 아니하시나이다. 그러므로 내가 행할 일을 당신이 내게 알려 주도록 하기 위해 내가 당신을 불렀나이다, 하니라. And Saul in answer said, I am in great danger; for the Philistines are making war on me, and God has gone away from me and will no longer give me any answer, by the prophets or by dreams: so I have sent for you to make clear to me what I am to do.
15 사무엘이 사울에게 이르되 네가 어찌하여 나를 불러 올려서 나로 분요케 하느냐 사울이 대답하되 나는 심히 군급하니이다 블레셋 사람은 나를 향하여 군대를 일으켰고 하나님은 나를 떠나서 다시는 선지자로도, 꿈으로도 내게 대답지 아니하시기로 나의 행할 일을 배우려고 당신을 불러 올렸나이다
16 Then saidSamuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?[x]MKJV: And Samuel said, Why then do you ask me, since the LORD has left you and has become your enemy? BBE: And Samuel said, Why do you put your questions to me, seeing that God has gone away from you and is on the side of him who is against you? KAV: 이에 사무엘이 이르되, {주}께서 너를 떠나 네 원수가 되셨거늘 네가 어찌하여 내게 묻느냐? TSK: Wherefore: jud 5:31, 2ki 6:27, ps 68:1-3, re 18:20,24, re 19:1-6; and is become: la 2:5
16 And Samuel said, Why do you put your questions to me, seeing that God has gone away from you and is on the side of him who is against you?
16 사무엘이 가로되 여호와께서 너를 떠나 네 대적이 되셨거늘 네가 어찌하여 내게 묻느냐
17 And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:[x]MKJV: And the LORD has done for Himself as He spoke by me. For the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and [is] giving it to your neighbor, to David. BBE: And the Lord himself has done what I said: the Lord has taken the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbour David; KAV: {주}께서 나를 통해 말씀하신 대로 그에게 행하셨으니 {주}께서 왕국을 네 손에서 찢으사 네 이웃에게 곧 다윗에게 주셨느니라. 17 And the Lord himself has done what I said: the Lord has taken the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbour David;

18Because thou obeyedst not the voice of the LORD, nor executedst his fiercewrath upon Amalek, therefore hath the LORDdone this thing unto thee this day.[x]MKJV: Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD, nor execute his fierce wrath on Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you now. BBE: Because you did not do what the Lord said, and did not give effect to his burning wrath against Amalek. So the Lord has done this thing to you today. 18 Because you did not do what the Lord said, and did not give effect to his burning wrath against Amalek. So the Lord has done this thing to you today.
18 네가 여호와의 목소리를 순종치 아니하고 그의 진노를 아말렉에게 쏟지 아니하였으므로 여호와께서 오늘날 이 일을 네게 행하셨고
19 Moreover the LORD will also deliverIsrael with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrowshalt thou and thy sonsbe with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.[x]MKJV: And, the LORD will also deliver Israel with you into the hand of the Philistines. And tomorrow you and your sons [shall be] with me. The LORD also shall deliver the army of Israel into the hand of the Philistines. BBE: And more than this, the Lord will give Israel up with you into the hands of the Philistines: and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me: and the Lord will give up the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines. 20 Then Saulfellstraightwayallalong on the earth, and was soreafraid, because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him; for he had eaten no bread all the day, nor all the night.[x]MKJV: And Saul immediately fell headlong on the earth, and was sorely afraid because of the words of Samuel. And there was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all day nor all night. BBE: Then Saul went down flat on the earth, and was full of fear because of Samuel's words: and there was no strength in him, for he had taken no food all that day or all that night. 20 Then Saul went down flat on the earth, and was full of fear because of Samuel's words: and there was no strength in him, for he had taken no food all that day or all that night.
20 사울이 갑자기 땅에 온전히 엎드러지니 이는 사무엘의 말을 인하여 심히 두려워함이요 또 그 기력이 진하였으니 이는 그가 종일 종야에 식물을 먹지 못하였음이라
21 And the womancame unto Saul, and saw that he was soretroubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.[x]MKJV: And the woman came to Saul and saw that he was sorely troubled, and said to him, Behold, your handmaid has obeyed your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have listened to your words which you spoke to me. BBE: And the woman came to Saul and saw that he was in great trouble, and said to him, See now, your servant has given ear to your words, and I have put my life in danger by doing what you said. 21 And the woman came to Saul and saw that he was in great trouble, and said to him, See now, your servant has given ear to your words, and I have put my life in danger by doing what you said.
21 그 여인이 사울에게 이르러 그 심히 고통함을 보고 그에게 이르되 여종이 왕의 말씀을 듣고 나의 생명을 아끼지 아니하고 왕이 내게 이르신 말씀을 청종하였사오니
22 Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken thou also unto the voice of thine handmaid, and let me set a morsel of breadbefore thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.[x]MKJV: And now please listen also to the voice of your handmaid, and let me set a bit of bread before you and eat, so that you may have strength when you go on your way. BBE: So now, give ear to the voice of your servant, and let me give you a little bread; and take some food to give you strength when you go on your way. 22 So now, give ear to the voice of your servant, and let me give you a little bread; and take some food to give you strength when you go on your way.
22 그런즉 청컨대 이제 여종의 말을 들으사 나로 왕의 앞에 한 조각 떡을 드리게 하시고 왕은 잡수시고 길 가실 때에 기력을 얻으소서
23 But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, compelled him; and he hearkened unto their voice. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.[x]MKJV: But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, forced him, and the woman also. 24 And the woman had a fatcalf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and tookflour, and kneadedit, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:[x]MKJV: And the woman had a fat calf in the house.
