1 And the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, and said, Is not David waiting secretly near us in the hill of Hachilah, before the waste land?

3 And Saul put up his tents on the hill of Hachilah, which is in front of the waste land on the road. But David was in the waste land, and he saw that Saul was coming after him.

5 And David got up and came to the place where Saul's tents were: and David had a view of the place where Saul was sleeping with Abner, the son of Ner, the captain of his army: and Saul was sleeping inside the ring of carts, and the tents of the people were all round him.

6 Then answeredDavid and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? 7 So David and Abishaicame to the people by night: and, behold, Saullaysleeping within the trench, and his spearstuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the peoplelay round about him.[x]MKJV: So David and Abishai came to the people by night. And behold, Saul lay sleeping in the tent, and his spear stuck in the ground at his head. But Abner and the people lay around him. 7 So David and Abishai came down to the army by night: and Saul was sleeping inside the ring of carts with his spear planted in the earth by his head: and Abner and the people were sleeping round him.

8 Then saidAbishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at onceㆍ, and I will not smite him the second time.[x]MKJV: And Abishai said to David, God has shut up your enemy into your hand this day. And please let me strike him with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not repeat [it] to him. BBE: Then Abishai said to David, God has given up your hater into your hands today; now let me give him one blow through to the earth with his spear, and there will be no need to give him a second. 9 And Davidsaid to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'Sanointed, and be guiltless?[x]MKJV: And David said to Abishai, Do not destroy him. For who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD's anointed and be guiltless? BBE: And David said to Abishai Do not put him to death; for who, without sin, may put out his hand against the man on whom the Lord has put the holy oil? 9 And David said to Abishai Do not put him to death; for who, without sin, may put out his hand against the man on whom the Lord has put the holy oil?
9 다윗이 아비새에게 이르되 죽이지 말라 누구든지 손을 들어 여호와의 기름 부음을 받은 자를 치면 죄가 없겠느냐
10Davidsaid furthermore, As the LORDliveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.[x]MKJV: And David said, [As] the LORD lives, except the LORD strike him, or his day shall come, and he dies, or he goes down to battle and is consumed, BBE: And David said, By the living Lord, the Lord will send destruction on him; the natural day of his death will come, or he will go into the fight and come to his end. 10 And David said, By the living Lord, the Lord will send destruction on him; the natural day of his death will come, or he will go into the fight and come to his end.
10 또 가로되 여호와께서 사시거니와 여호와께서 그를 치시리니 혹 죽을 날이 이르거나 혹 전장에 들어 가서 망하리라
11 The LORDforbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'Sanointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.[x]MKJV: far be it from me by the LORD, from putting forth my hand against the LORD's anointed. And now, please take the spear at his head and the cruse of water, and we will go. BBE: Never will my hand be stretched out against the man marked with the holy oil; but take the spear which is by his head and the vessel of water, and let us go. 11 Never will my hand be stretched out against the man marked with the holy oil; but take the spear which is by his head and the vessel of water, and let us go.

12 So Davidtook the spear and the cruse of water from Saul'sbolster; and they gat them away, and no man sawit, nor knewit, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.[x]MKJV: And David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's head. And they went away, and no one saw, and no one knew; and no one was awake; for all of them [were] sleeping, because a deep sleep [from] the LORD had fallen on them. BBE: So David took the spear and the vessel of water from Saul's head; and they got away without any man seeing them, or being conscious of their coming, or awaking; for they were all sleeping because a deep sleep from the Lord had come on them. 13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a greatspacebeing between them:[x]MKJV: And David went over [to] the other side and stood on the top of a hill afar off, a great space between them. 13 Then David went over to the other side, and took his place on the top of a mountain some distance away, with a great space between them;

And Abner answered and said, Who [are] you that cries to the king? BBE: And crying out to the people and to Abner, the son of Ner, David said, Have you no answer to give, Abner? 14 And crying out to the people and to Abner, the son of Ner, David said, Have you no answer to give, Abner? Then Abner said, Who is that crying out to the king?
14 다윗이 백성과 넬의 아들 아브넬을 대하여 외쳐 가로되 아브넬아 너는 대답지 아니하느냐 아브넬이 대답하여 가로되 왕을 부르는 너는 누구냐
15 And Davidsaid to Abner, Art not thou a valiantman? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there cameone of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.[x]MKJV: And David said to Abner, [Are] you not a man? And who is like you in Israel? But why have you not watched over your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy your lord the king. BBE: And David said to Abner, Are you not a man of war? is there any other like you in Israel? why then have you not kept watch over your lord the king? for one of the people came in to put the king your lord to death. KAV: 다윗이 아브넬에게 이르되, 네가 용맹한 자가 아니냐? 이스라엘에서 누가 너와 같으냐? 그러한데 네가 어찌하여 네 주 왕을 보호하지 아니하였느냐? 백성 중에서 한 사람이 네 주 왕을 죽이려고 들어갔느니라.
15 And David said to Abner, Are you not a man of war? is there any other like you in Israel? why then have you not kept watch over your lord the king? for one of the people came in to put the king your lord to death.
15 다윗이 아브넬에게 이르되 네가 용사가 아니냐 이스라엘 중에 너 같은 자가 누구냐 그러한데 네가 어찌하여 네 주 왕을 보호하지 아니하느냐 백성 중 한 사람이 네 주 왕을 죽이려고 들어갔었느니라
16 This thingis not good that thou hast done. As the LORDliveth, ye areworthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD'Sanointed. And now see where the king'sspearis, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.[x]MKJV: This thing that you have done [is] not good. [As] the LORD lives, because you have not watched over your master, the LORD's anointed, you also are worthy to die. And now see where the king's spear [is], and the cruse of water that [was] at his head. BBE: What you have done is not good. By the living Lord, death is the right fate for you, because you have not kept watch over your lord, the man on whom the Lord has put the holy oil. Now see, where is the king's spear, and the vessel of water which was by his head? KAV: 네가 행한 이 일이 선하지 아니하도다. {주}께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 너희가 {주}의 기름 부음 받은 자 곧 너희 주인을 보호하지 아니하였으므로 너희는 죽어야 마땅하니라. 이제 왕의 창과 왕의 베개 옆에 있던 물병이 어디 있나 보라, 하니라. 16 네 행한 이 일이 선치 못하도다 여호와께서 사시거니와 여호와의 기름 부음 받은 너희 주를 보호하지 아니하였으니 너희는 마땅히 죽을 자니라 이제 왕의 창과 왕의 머리 곁에 있던 물병이 어디 있나 보라
17 And SaulknewDavid'svoice, and said, Is this thy voice, my sonDavid? And Davidsaid, It is my voice, my lord, O king.[x]MKJV: And Saul knew David's voice and said, [Is] this your voice, my son David? And David said, [It is] my voice, my lord, O king. BBE: And Saul, conscious that the voice was David's, said, Is that your voice, David, my son? And David said, It is my voice, O my lord king. 17 And Saul, conscious that the voice was David's, said, Is that your voice, David, my son? And David said, It is my voice, O my lord king.

18 And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursueafter his servant? for what have I done? or what evilis in mine hand?[x]MKJV: And he said, Why does my lord pursue after his servant this way? For what have I done? Or what evil [is] in my hand? BBE: And he said, Why does my lord go armed against his servant? what have I done? or what evil is there in me? 19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the kinghear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursedbe they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serveothergods.[x]MKJV: And now, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD has stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering. But if [it is] the sons of men, they [are] cursed before the LORD. For they have driven me out today from joining myself with the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods. BBE: Let my lord the king give ear now to the words of his servant. If it is the Lord who is moving you against me, let him take an offering: but if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for driving me out today and keeping me from my place in the heritage of the Lord, saying, Go, be the servant of other gods. 19 청컨대 내 주 왕은 이제 종의 말을 들으소서 만일 왕을 격동시켜 나를 해하려 하는 이가 여호와시면 여호와께서는 제물을 받으시기를 원하나이다마는 만일 인자들이면 그들이 여호와 앞에 저주를 받으리니 이는 그들이 이르기를 너는 가서 다른 신들을 섬기라 하고 오늘날 나를 쫓아내어 여호와의 기업에 붙지 못하게 함이니이다
20 Now therefore, let not my bloodfall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seekaflea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.[x]MKJV: And now, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD. For the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains. BBE: Then do not let my blood be drained out on the earth away from the face of the Lord: for the king of Israel has come out to take my life, like one going after birds in the mountains. 21 Then saidSaul, I have sinned: return, my sonDavid: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erredexceedingly.[x]MKJV: And Saul said, I have sinned. 21 Then Saul said, I have done wrong: come back to me, David my son: I will do you no more wrong, because my life was dear to you today truly, I have been foolish and my error is very great.
21 사울이 가로되 내가 범죄하였도다 내 아들 다윗아 돌아오라 네가 오늘 내 생명을 귀중히 여겼은즉 내가 다시는 너를 해하려 하지 아니하리라 내가 어리석은 일을 하였으니 대단히 잘못 되었도다
22 And Davidanswered and said, Behold the king'sspear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.[x]MKJV: And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! And let one of the young men come over and get it. BBE: Then David said, Here is the king's spear! let one of the young men come over and get it. KAV: 다윗이 응답하여 이르되, 왕의 창을 보소서! 청년들 가운데 한 명을 오게 하여 그것을 가져가게 하소서.
22 Then David said, Here is the king's spear! let one of the young men come over and get it.
22 다윗이 대답하여 가로되 왕은 창을 보소서 한 소년을 보내어 가져가게 하소서
23 The LORDrender to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORDdelivered thee into myhand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'Sanointed.[x]MKJV: May the LORD give to each his righteousness and his faithfulness. For the LORD delivered you into [my] hand today, but I would not stretch forth my hand against the LORD's anointed. BBE: And the Lord will give to every man the reward of his righteousness and his faith: because the Lord gave you into my hands today, and I would not put out my hand against the man who has been marked with the holy oil. 23 And the Lord will give to every man the reward of his righteousness and his faith: because the Lord gave you into my hands today, and I would not put out my hand against the man who has been marked with the holy oil.
23 여호와께서 각 사람에게 그 의와 신실을 갚으시리니 이는 여호와께서 오늘날 왕을 내 손에 붙이셨으되 나는 손을 들어 여호와의 기름 부음을 받은 자 치기를 원치 아니하였음이니이다
24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.[x]MKJV: And behold, as your life was precious in my eyes this day, so let my life be precious in the eyes of the LORD, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation. BBE: And so, as your life was dear to me today, may my life be dear to the Lord, and may he make me free from all my troubles. 25 Then Saulsaid to David, Blessedbe thou, my sonDavid: thou shalt both dogreatthings, and also shalt stillprevail.
