13 And the priests' way with the people was this: when any man made an offering, the priest's servant came while the flesh was being cooked, having in his hand a meat-hook with three teeth;
13 그 제사장들이 백성에게 행하는 습관은 이러하니 곧 아무 사람이 제사를 드리고 그 고기를 삶을 때에 제사장의 사환이 손에 세살 갈고리를 가지고 와서
14 And he struckit into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priesttook for himself. So they did in Shiloh, unto all the Israelites that came thither.[x]MKJV: And [he] stuck [it] into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. All that the flesh-hook brought up the priest took for himself. 15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest'sservantcame, and said to the man that sacrificed, Giveflesh to roast for the priest; for he will not havesoddenflesh of thee, but raw.[x]MKJV: Yea, before they burned the fat, the priest's servant came and said to the man who sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest. For he will not have boiled flesh from you, but raw! 16 And if any mansaid unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fatpresently, and thentakeas much as thy souldesireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt giveit me now: and if not, I will takeit by force.[x]MKJV: And [if] any man said to him, Let them not fail to burn the fat at once, and then take as your soul desires, then he would answer him, No! But you shall give now! And if not, I will take it by force. BBE: And if the man said to him, First let the fat be burned, then take as much as you will; then the servant would say, No, you are to give it to me now, or I will take it by force. 17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was verygreatbefore the LORD: for menabhorred the offering of the LORD.[x]MKJV: And the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD. For men despised the offering of the LORD. BBE: And the sin of these young men was very great before the Lord; for they gave no honour to the Lord's offerings. 19 And his mother made him a little robe and took it to him every year when she came with her husband for the year's offering.

20 And EliblessedElkanah and his wife, and said, The LORDgive thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went to their own home. BBE: And every year Eli gave Elkanah and his wife a blessing, saying, May the Lord give you offspring by this woman in exchange for the child you have given to the Lord. And they went back to their house. 21And the LORDvisitedHannah, so that she conceived, and barethreesons and twodaughters. And the childSamuelgrewbefore the LORD.[x]MKJV: And the LORD visited Hannah so that she conceived, and she bore three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD. BBE: And the Lord had mercy on Hannah and she gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the young Samuel became older before the Lord. 22 Now Eli was veryold, and heard all that his sonsdid unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembledat the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.[x]MKJV: And Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who gathered [at] the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. BBE: Now Eli was very old; and he had news from time to time of what his sons were doing to all Israel. 23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evildealings by all this people.[x]MKJV: And he said to them, Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings by all the people. BBE: And he said to them, Why are you doing such things? for from all this people I get accounts of your evil ways. 25 If one mansin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a mansin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORDwouldslay them.[x]MKJV: If one man sins against another, the judge shall judge him. But if a man sins against the LORD, who shall plead for him? But they did not listen to the voice of their father, because the LORD desired to kill them. BBE: If one man does wrong to another, God will be his judge: but if a man's sin is against the Lord, who will take up his cause? But they gave no attention to the voice of their father, for it was the Lord's purpose to send destruction on them. 26 And the childSamuelgrewon, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.[x]MKJV: And the child Samuel went on [growing] both in stature and in good [looks], both with the LORD and also with men. 29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commandedin myhabitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?[x]MKJV: Why do you kick at My sacrifice and My offering, which I have commanded [in My] house? [Do you] honor your sons above Me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel My people? BBE: Why then are you looking with envy on my offerings of meat and of meal which were ordered by my word, honouring your sons before me, and making yourselves fat with all the best of the offerings of Israel, my people? 30 Wherefore the LORDGod of Israelsaith, I saidindeedthat thy house, and the house of thy father, should walkbefore me forever: but now the LORDsaith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.[x]MKJV: And the LORD God of Israel says, I said indeed, Your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever. But now the LORD says, Be it far from Me! For those who honor Me I will honor, and those that think little of Me shall be lightly regarded. BBE: For this reason the Lord God of Israel has said, Truly I did say that your family and your father's people would have their place before me for ever: but now the Lord says, Let it not be so; I will give honour to those by whom I am honoured, and those who have no respect for me will be of small value in my eyes. 31 Behold, the dayscome, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father'shouse, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.[x]MKJV: Behold, the days come when I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house, so that no old man shall be in your house. 33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.[x]MKJV: And that man of yours [whom] I shall not cut off from My altar, shall be left in order to make your eyes fail, and to grieve your heart. And all the increase of your house shall die [young] men. BBE: But one man of your family will not be cut off by my hand, and his eyes will be made dark, and grief will be in his heart: and all the offspring of your family will come to their end by the sword of men. 34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy twosons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in oneday they shall dieboth of them.[x]MKJV: And this [shall be] a sign to you, which shall come upon your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day both of them shall die. 35 And I will raise me up a faithfulpriest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a surehouse; and he shall walkbefore mine anointed for ever.[x]MKJV: And I will raise up a faithful priest to Myself, one who shall do according to what [is] in My heart and in My mind. And I will build him a sure house, and he shall walk before My anointed forever. 36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall comeandcrouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.[x]MKJV: And it shall be that everyone who is left in your house shall come [and] bow down to him for a piece of silver and a piece of bread. And [they] shall say, Please put me into one of the priests' offices so that I may eat a piece of bread. BBE: Then it will be that the rest of your family, anyone who has not been cut off, will go down on his knees to him for a bit of silver or a bit of bread, and say, Be pleased to put me into one of the priest's places so that I may have a little food. 36 네 집에 남은 사람이 각기 와서 은 한 조각과 떡 한 덩이를 위하여 그에게 엎드려 가로되 청하노니 내게 한 제사장의 직분을 맡겨 나로 떡 조각을 먹게 하소서 하리라 하셨다 하니라
