1 And the Lord said to Samuel, How long will you go on sorrowing for Saul, seeing that I have put him from his place as king over Israel? Take oil in your vessel and go; I will send you to Jesse, the Beth-lehemite: for I have got a king for myself among his sons.

2 And Samuelsaid, How can I go? if Saulhearit, he will kill me. And the LORDsaid, Take an heiferwiththee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.[x]MKJV: And Samuel said, How can I go? If Saul hears, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take a heifer of the herd in your hand with you and say, I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. BBE: And Samuel said, How is it possible for me to go? If Saul gets news of it he will put me to death. And the Lord said, Take a young cow with you and say, I have come to make an offering to the Lord. 4 And Samueldid that which the LORDspake, and came to Bethlehem. 4 And Samuel did as the Lord said and came to Beth-lehem. And the responsible men of the town came out to him in fear and said, Do you come in peace?

5 And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice. And he made Jesse and his sons clean, and sent for them to be present at the offering. 6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord'sanointedis before him.[x]MKJV: And it happened as they came in, he saw Eliab and said, Surely the LORD's anointed [is] before the LORD. BBE: Now when they came, looking at Eliab, he said, Clearly the man of the Lord's selection is before him. 6 Now when they came, looking at Eliab, he said, Clearly the man of the Lord's selection is before him.

7 But the LORDsaid unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as manseeth; for manlooketh on the outward appearance, but the LORDlooketh on the heart.[x]MKJV: But the LORD said to Samuel, Do not look on his face, nor on his height, because I have refused him. For He does not see as man sees. For man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart. BBE: But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not take note of his face or how tall he is, because I will not have him: for the Lord's view is not man's; man takes note of the outer form, but the Lord sees the heart. 8 Then JessecalledAbinadab, and made him passbeforeSamuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORDchosen this.[x]MKJV: And Jesse called Abinadab, and he passed him before Samuel, but he said, Also the LORD has not chosen this one. BBE: Then Jesse sent for Abinadab and made him come before Samuel. And he said, The Lord has not taken this one. KAV: 이에 이새가 아비나답을 불러 사무엘 앞으로 지나가게 하매 그가 이르되, 이 사람도 {주}께서 택하지 아니하셨느니라, 하니라. 8 Then Jesse sent for Abinadab and made him come before Samuel. And he said, The Lord has not taken this one.

9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORDchosen this.[x]MKJV: And Jesse passed Shammah by, but he said, Also the LORD has not chosen this one. 9 Then Jesse made Shammah come before him. And he said, The Lord has not taken this one.

10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to passbeforeSamuel. And Samuelsaid unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.[x]MKJV: And Jesse passed seven of his sons before Samuel, but Samuel said to Jesse, The LORD has not chosen these. BBE: And Jesse made his seven sons come before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, The Lord has not taken any of these. 10 And Jesse made his seven sons come before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, The Lord has not taken any of these.

11 And Samuelsaid unto Jesse, Are here allthychildren? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuelsaid unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he comehither.[x]MKJV: And Samuel said to Jesse, Are all the young men here? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he keeps the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him, for we will not sit down until he comes here. BBE: Then Samuel said to Jesse, Are all your children here? And he said, There is still the youngest, and he is looking after the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and make him come here: for we will not take our seats till he is here. 11 Then Samuel said to Jesse, Are all your children here? And he said, There is still the youngest, and he is looking after the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and make him come here: for we will not take our seats till he is here.
11 또 이새에게 이르되 네 아들들이 다 여기 있느냐 이새가 가로되 아직 말째가 남았는데 그가 양을 지키나이다 사무엘이 이새에게 이르되 보내어 그를 데려오라 그가 여기 오기까지는 우리가 식사 자리에 앉지 아니하겠노라
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he wasruddy, andwithal of a beautifulcountenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORDsaid, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.[x]MKJV: And he sent and brought him in. And he [was] ruddy, with beautiful eyes and good form. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him. For this is he. BBE: So he sent and made him come in. Now he had red hair and beautiful eyes and pleasing looks. And the Lord said, Come, put the oil on him, for this is he. KAV: 그가 사람을 보내어 그를 데려왔는데 이제 그는 혈색이 좋으며 아름다운 용모를 지녔고 보기에 잘생겼더라. {주}께서 이르시되, 이 사람이 그니 일어나 그에게 기름을 부으라, 하시니라. 12 So he sent and made him come in. Now he had red hair and beautiful eyes and pleasing looks. And the Lord said, Come, put the oil on him, for this is he.
12 이에 보내어 그를 데려오매 그의 빛이 붉고 눈이 빼어나고 얼굴이 아름답더라 여호와께서 가라사대 이가 그니 일어나 기름을 부으라
13 Then Samueltook the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the spirit of the LORDcame upon David from that dayforward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.[x]MKJV: And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the spirit of the LORD came on David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah. BBE: Then Samuel took the bottle of oil, and put the oil on him there among his brothers: and from that day the spirit of the Lord came on David with power. 14 But the spirit of the LORDdeparted from Saul, and an evilspirit from the LORDtroubled him.[x]MKJV: But the spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrified him. BBE: Now the spirit of the Lord had gone from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord was troubling him. 15 And Saul'sservantssaid unto him, Behold now, an evilspirit from Godtroubleth thee.[x]MKJV: And Saul's servants said to him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God terrifies you. BBE: And Saul's servants said to him, See now, an evil spirit from God is troubling you. KAV: 사울의 신하들이 그에게 이르되, 이제 보소서, [하나님]으로부터 온 악한 영이 왕을 괴롭게 하온즉
15 And Saul's servants said to him, See now, an evil spirit from God is troubling you.

16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which arebefore thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunningplayer on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evilspirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.[x]MKJV: Let our lord now command his servants before you to seek out a man who knows to play on a harp. And it shall be, when the evil spirit from God is on you, then he shall play [with] his hand, and [it shall be] well with you. BBE: Now give orders to your servants who are here before you to go in search of a man who is an expert player on a corded instrument: and it will be that when the evil spirit from God is on you, he will make music for you on his instrument, and you will get well. 16 원컨대 우리 주는 주의 앞에 모시는 신하에게 명하여 수금 잘 탈줄 아는 사람을 구하게 하소서 하나님의 부리신 악신이 왕에게 이를 때에 그가 손으로 타면 왕이 나으시리이다
17 And Saulsaid unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can playwell, and bringhim to me.[x]MKJV: And Saul said to his servants, Now look for me a man who can play well, and bring [him] to me. BBE: And Saul said to his servants, Then get me a man who is an expert player, and make him come to me. KAV: 사울이 자기 신하들에게 이르되, 이제 나를 위해 하프를 잘 타는 사람을 구해 내게로 데려오라, 하니라.
17 And Saul said to his servants, Then get me a man who is an expert player, and make him come to me.

18 Then answeredone of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that iscunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comelyperson, and the LORDis with him.[x]MKJV: And one of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, and a mighty warrior and a man of battle, and prudent in speech. And he is a person of good form, and the LORD [is with him. BBE: Then one of the servants in answer said, I have seen a son of Jesse, the Beth-lehemite, who is expert at playing, and a strong man and a man of war; and he is wise in his words, and pleasing in looks, and the Lord is with him. KAV: 그때에 신하들 중에서 한 사람이 응답하여 이르되, 보소서, 내가 베들레헴 사람 이새의 아들을 보니 그는 솜씨 있게 하프를 탈 줄 알고 또 강하고 용맹한 자요, 전사요, 일에 분별력이 있으며 단정한 자니이다. {주}께서 그와 함께 계시나이다, 하더라. 18 소년 중 한 사람이 대답하여 가로되 내가 베들레헴 사람 이새의 아들을 본즉 탈줄을 알고 호기와 무용과 구변이 있는 준수한 자라 여호와께서 그와 함께 계시더이다
19 Wherefore Saulsentmessengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.[x]MKJV: And Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, Send me your son David, who [is] with the sheep. BBE: So Saul sent his servants to Jesse and said, Send me your son David who is with the sheep. BBE: And Jesse took five cakes of bread and a skin of wine and a young goat and sent them to Saul by David. 21 다윗이 사울에게 이르러 그 앞에 모셔 서매 사울이 그를 크게 사랑하여 자기의 병기 든 자를 삼고
22 And Saulsent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, standbefore me; for he hath foundfavour in my sight.[x]MKJV: And Saul sent to Jesse saying, Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight. BBE: And Saul sent to Jesse saying, Let David be with me, for he is pleasing to me. KAV: 이새에게 사람을 보내어 이르되, 원하건대 다윗이 내 앞에 서게 하라. 그가 내 눈앞에서 은총을 얻었느니라, 하니라.
22 And Saul sent to Jesse saying, Let David be with me, for he is pleasing to me.
22 이새에게 사람을 보내어 이르되 청컨대 다윗으로 내 앞에 모셔 서게 하라 그가 내게 은총을 얻었느니라 하니라
23 And it came to pass, when the evilspirit from God was upon Saul, that Davidtook an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evilspiritdeparted from him.[x]MKJV: And it happened when the spirit from God was on Saul, that David took a harp and played with his hand. And there was relief for Saul, and [it was] well with him, and the evil spirit departed from him. BBE: And whenever the evil spirit from God came on Saul, David took his instrument and made music: so new life came to Saul, and he got well, and the evil spirit went away from him. 23 And whenever the evil spirit from God came on Saul, David took his instrument and made music: so new life came to Saul, and he got well, and the evil spirit went away from him.
23 하나님의 부리신 악신이 사울에게 이를 때에 다윗이 수금을 취하여 손으로 탄즉 사울이 상쾌하여 낫고 악신은 그에게서 떠나더라
