1 And Samuel said to Saul, The Lord sent me to put the holy oil on you and to make you king over his people, over Israel: so give ear now to the words of the Lord.

2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I rememberthat which Amalekdid to Israel, how he laidwait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.[x]MKJV: So says the LORD of hosts, I will visit Amalek with what he did to Israel, how he set against him in the way when he came up from Egypt. 3 Go now and put Amalek to the sword, putting to the curse all they have, without mercy: put to death every man and woman, every child and baby at the breast, every ox and sheep, camel and ass.

4 And Saulgathered the peopletogether, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundredthousandfootmen, and tenthousandmen of Judah.[x]MKJV: And Saul gathered the people together and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen and ten thousand men of Judah. 6 And Saulsaid unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye showedkindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenitesdeparted from among the Amalekites.[x]MKJV: And Saul said to the Kenites, Go! Depart! Get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the sons of Israel when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. So the Kenites went away from among the Amalekites. 6 And Saul said to the Kenites, Go away, take yourselves out from among the Amalekites, or destruction will overtake you with them: for you were kind to the children of Israel when they came out of Egypt. So the Kenites went away from among the Amalekites.

7 And Saulsmote the Amalekites from Havilahuntil thou comest to Shur, that is over againstEgypt.[x]MKJV: And Saul struck the Amalekites from Havilah, as you come to Shur, which [is] over across from Egypt. BBE: And Saul made an attack on the Amalekites from Havilah on the road to Shur, which is before Egypt. 7 And Saul made an attack on the Amalekites from Havilah on the road to Shur, which is before Egypt.

8 He took Agag, king of the Amalekites, prisoner, and put all the people to the sword without mercy.

9 But Saul and the peoplesparedAgag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that wasgood, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thingthat wasvile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.[x]MKJV: But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fatlings and the lambs, and all [that was] good, and would not completely destroy them. But everything that was] vile and feeble they completely destroyed. BBE: But Saul and the people did not put Agag to death, and they kept the best of the sheep and the oxen and the fat beasts and the lambs, and whatever was good, not desiring to put them to the curse: but everything which was bad and of no use they put to the curse. 9 But Saul and the people did not put Agag to death, and they kept the best of the sheep and the oxen and the fat beasts and the lambs, and whatever was good, not desiring to put them to the curse: but everything which was bad and of no use they put to the curse.
9 사울과 백성이 아각과 그 양과 소의 가장 좋은 것 또는 기름진 것과 어린 양과 모든 좋은 것을 남기고 진멸키를 즐겨 아니하고 가치 없고 낮은 것은 진멸하니라
10 Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,[x]MKJV: And the word of the LORD came to Samuel saying, BBE: Then the Lord said to Samuel, KAV: ¶ 그때에 {주}의 말씀이 사무엘에게 임하니라. 이르시되,
10 Then the Lord said to Samuel,

11 It repenteth me that I have set upSaulto beking: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grievedSamuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.[x]MKJV: It repents Me that I have set up Saul [to be] king. For he has turned back from following Me and has not done My commands. And it grieved Samuel, and he cried [out to] the LORD all night. BBE: It is no longer my pleasure for Saul to be king; for he is turned back from going in my ways, and has not done my orders. 11 It is no longer my pleasure for Saul to be king; for he is turned back from going in my ways, and has not done my orders. And Samuel was very sad, crying to the Lord in prayer all night.
11 내가 사울을 세워 왕 삼은 것을 후회하노니 그가 돌이켜서 나를 좇지 아니하며 내 명령을 이루지 아니하였음이니라 하신지라 사무엘이 근심하여 온 밤을 여호와께 부르짖으니라
12 And when Samuel rose early to meetSaul in the morning, it was toldSamuel, saying, Saulcame to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.[x]MKJV: And when Samuel rose up early in the morning to meet Saul, it was told to Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a place for himself, and has gone around and passed on and gone down to Gilgal. BBE: And early in the morning he got up and went to Saul; and word was given to Samuel that Saul had come to Carmel and put up a pillar, and had gone from there down to Gilgal. 12 And early in the morning he got up and went to Saul; and word was given to Samuel that Saul had come to Carmel and put up a pillar, and had gone from there down to Gilgal.
12 사무엘이 사울을 만나려고 아침에 일찌기 일어났더니 혹이 사무엘에게 고하여 가로되 사울이 갈멜에 이르러 자기를 위하여 기념비를 세우고 돌이켜 행하여 길갈로 내려갔다 하는지라
13 And Samuelcame to Saul: and Saulsaid unto him, Blessedbe thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.[x]MKJV: And Samuel came to Saul. And Saul said to him, You [are] blessed of the LORD. I have done the command of the LORD. BBE: And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, May the blessing of the Lord be with you: I have done what was ordered by the Lord. 13 And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, May the blessing of the Lord be with you: I have done what was ordered by the Lord.

14 And Samuelsaid, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?[x]MKJV: And Samuel said, What then [is] this bleating of the flock in my ears? And [what is] the sound of the herd which I hear? BBE: And Samuel said, What then is this sound of the crying of sheep and the noise of oxen which comes to my ears? 14 And Samuel said, What then is this sound of the crying of sheep and the noise of oxen which comes to my ears?

15 And Saulsaid, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the peoplespared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.[x]MKJV: And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites. For the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen to sacrifice to the LORD your God. And the rest we have completely destroyed. BBE: And Saul said, They have taken them from the Amalekites: for the people have kept the best of the sheep and of the oxen as an offering to the Lord your God; all the rest we have given up to destruction. 16 Then Samuelsaid unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.[x]MKJV: And Samuel said to Saul, Stop! And I will tell you what the LORD has said to me tonight. And he said to him, Speak. BBE: Then Samuel said to Saul, Say no more! Let me give you word of what the Lord has said to me this night. 16 Then Samuel said to Saul, Say no more! Let me give you word of what the Lord has said to me this night. And he said to him, Say on.

17 And Samuelsaid, When thou wastlittle in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORDanointed thee king over Israel?[x]MKJV: And Samuel said, When you [were] little in your own sight, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? And the LORD anointed you king over Israel. BBE: And Samuel said, Though you may seem little to yourself, are you not head of the tribes of Israel? for the Lord with the holy oil made you king over Israel, KAV: 사무엘이 이르되, 왕이 스스로 보기에 작았을 때에 이스라엘 지파들의 머리가 되셨고 {주}께서 왕에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘을 다스릴 왕으로 삼지 아니하셨나이까? 17 And Samuel said, Though you may seem little to yourself, are you not head of the tribes of Israel? for the Lord with the holy oil made you king over Israel,
17 사무엘이 가로되 왕이 스스로 작게 여길 그 때에 이스라엘 지파의 머리가 되지 아니하셨나이까 여호와께서 왕에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘 왕을 삼으시고
18 And the LORDsent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.[x]MKJV: And the LORD sent you on the way and said, Go and completely destroy the sinners, Amalek, and fight against them until you destroy them. BBE: And the Lord sent you on a journey and said, Go and put to the curse those sinners, the Amalekites, fighting against them till every one is dead. KAV: 또 {주}께서 왕을 보내 이동하게 하시며 말씀하시기를, 가서 죄인인 아말렉 족속을 진멸하되 그들이 소멸되기까지 그들과 싸우라, 하셨나이다. TSK: the sinners: ge 13:13, ge 15:16, nu 16:38, job 31:3, pr 10:29, pr 13:21
18 And the Lord sent you on a journey and said, Go and put to the curse those sinners, the Amalekites, fighting against them till every one is dead.

19 Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didstevil in the sight of the LORD?[x]MKJV: Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you fly on the spoil and do evil in the sight of the LORD? BBE: Why then did you not do the orders of the Lord, but by violently taking their goods did evil in the eyes of the Lord? 19 Why then did you not do the orders of the Lord, but by violently taking their goods did evil in the eyes of the Lord?
19 어찌하여 왕이 여호와의 목소리를 청종치 아니하고 탈취하기에만 급하여 여호와의 악하게 여기시는 것을 행하였나이까
20 And Saulsaid unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORDsent me, and have broughtAgag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.[x]MKJV: And Saul said to Samuel, Yes, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have completely destroyed the Amalekites. BBE: And Saul said, Truly, I have done the orders of the Lord and have gone the way the Lord sent me; I have taken Agag, the king of Amalek, and have given the Amalekites up to destruction. 21 But the peopletook of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.[x]MKJV: But the people took from the spoil, of [the] flocks and herd, [the] best of the things devoted to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal. BBE: But the people took some of their goods, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which were put to the curse, to make an offering of them to the Lord your God in Gilgal. KAV: 다만 백성이 길갈에서 {주} 당신의 [하나님]께 희생물을 드리려고 노략물 중에서 양과 소와 또 마땅히 진멸시켜야 할 것들 중에서 가장 좋은 것을 취하였나이다, 하매 TSK: the people: 1sa 15:15, ge 3:13, ex 32:22,23
21 But the people took some of their goods, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which were put to the curse, to make an offering of them to the Lord your God in Gilgal.
21 다만 백성이 그 마땅히 멸할 것 중에서 가장 좋은 것으로 길갈에서 당신의 하나님 여호와께 제사하려고 양과 소를 취하였나이다
22 And Samuelsaid, Hath the LORDas greatdelight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obeyisbetter than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.[x]MKJV: And Samuel said, Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey [is] better than sacrifice! To listen [is] better than the fat of rams! BBE: And Samuel said, Has the Lord as much delight in offerings and burned offerings as in the doing of his orders? Truly, to do his pleasure is better than to make offerings, and to give ear to him than the fat of sheep. 22 And Samuel said, Has the Lord as much delight in offerings and burned offerings as in the doing of his orders? Truly, to do his pleasure is better than to make offerings, and to give ear to him than the fat of sheep.
22 사무엘이 가로되 여호와께서 번제와 다른 제사를 그 목소리 순종하는 것을 좋아하심 같이 좋아하시겠나이까 순종이 제사보다 낫고 듣는것이 수양의 기름보다 나으니
23 For rebellionis as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornnessis asiniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from beingking.[x]MKJV: For rebellion [is as] the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idol-worship. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king! BBE: For to go against his orders is like the sin of those who make use of secret arts, and pride is like giving worship to images. 23 이는 거역하는 것은 사술의 죄와 같고 완고한 것은 사신 우상에게 절하는 죄와 같음이라 왕이 여호와의 말씀을 버렸으므로 여호와께서도 왕을 버려 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨나이다
24 And Saulsaid unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.[x]MKJV: And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned. For I have disobeyed the command of the LORD, and your word, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. BBE: And Saul said to Samuel, Great is my sin: for I have gone against the orders of the Lord and against your words: because, fearing the people, I did what they said. 25 Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.[x]MKJV: And now please pardon my sin and turn again with me so that I may worship the LORD. 27 And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.[x]MKJV: And Samuel turned around to go, and he laid hold on the skirt of his robe, and it tore. BBE: And when Samuel was turning round to go away, Saul took the skirt of his robe in his hand, and the cloth came away. KAV: 사무엘이 가려고 돌이킬 때에 그가 그의 겉옷 자락을 붙잡으매 그것이 찢어지므로
27 And when Samuel was turning round to go away, Saul took the skirt of his robe in his hand, and the cloth came away.

28 And Samuelsaid unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that isbetter than thou.[x]MKJV: And Samuel said to him, The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours [who is] better than you. BBE: And Samuel said to him, The Lord has taken away the kingdom of Israel from you this day by force, and has given it to a neighbour of yours who is better than you. BBE: And further, the Glory of Israel will not say what is false, and his purpose may not be changed: for he is not a man, whose purpose may be changed. 29 이스라엘의 지존자는 거짓이나 변개함이 없으시니 그는 사람이 아니시므로 결코 변개치 않으심이니이다
30 Then he said, I have sinned: yethonour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.[x]MKJV: Then he said, I have sinned. Please honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and turn again with me. And I shall worship the LORD your God. BBE: Then he said, Great is my sin: but still, give me honour now before the heads of my people and before Israel, and come back with me so that I may give worship to the Lord your God. 31 So Samuel turned againafterSaul; and Saulworshipped the LORD.[x]MKJV: And Samuel turned again after Saul, and Saul worshiped the LORD. BBE: So Samuel went back after Saul, and Saul gave worship to the Lord. KAV: 이에 사무엘이 돌이켜서 사울을 따라가매 사울이 {주}께 경배하니라.
31 So Samuel went back after Saul, and Saul gave worship to the Lord.

32 Then saidSamuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agagcame unto him delicately. And Agagsaid, Surely the bitterness of death is past.[x]MKJV: And Samuel said, Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came to him daintily. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past. BBE: Then Samuel said, Make Agag, the king of the Amalekites, come here to me. And Agag came to him shaking with fear. 32 Then Samuel said, Make Agag, the king of the Amalekites, come here to me. And Agag came to him shaking with fear. And Agag said, Truly the pain of death is past.
32 사무엘이 가로되 너희는 아말렉 사람의 왕 아각을 내게로 이끌어 오라 하였더니 아각이 즐거이 오며 가로되 진실로 사망의 괴로움이 지났도다 하니라
33 And Samuelsaid, As thy sword hath made womenchildless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And SamuelhewedAgag in piecesbefore the LORD in Gilgal.[x]MKJV: And Samuel said, As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. And Samuel cut Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal. BBE: And Samuel said, As your sword has made women without children, so now your mother will be without children among women. And Agag was cut up by Samuel, bone from bone, before the Lord in Gilgal. KAV: 사무엘이 이르되, 네 칼이 여인들로 하여금 자식이 없게 한 것 같이 여인들 가운데서 네 어미가 자식이 없으리라, 하고 사무엘이 길갈에서 {주} 앞에서 아각을 찍어 토막을 내니라. And the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel. 35 사무엘이 죽는 날까지 사울을 다시 가서 보지 아니하였으니 이는 그가 사울을 위하여 슬퍼함이었고 여호와께서는 사울로 이스라엘 왕 삼으신 것을 후회하셨더라
