그리스도의 고난에 대한 묵상이 순결과 거룩함을 위해 촉구되다. (1-6) 그리고 유대 국가의 종말이 다가옴이 신중함, 깨어 있음, 기도의 이유로 제시되다. (7-11) 믿는 자들이 그리스도를 위한 비방과 고난 중에 기뻐하고 자랑하며, 신실하신 하나님께 자기 영혼을 맡기라고 격려받다. (12-19)
1 Forasmuch then asChrist hath sufferedforus in the flesh, armyourselveslikewise with the samemind: for he that hath sufferedin the flesh hath ceased from sin;
1 So that as Jesus was put to death in the flesh, do you yourselves be of the same mind; for the death of the flesh puts an end to sin;
1 그리스도께서 이미 육체의 고난을 받으셨으니 너희도 같은 마음으로 갑옷을 삼으라 이는 육체의 고난을 받은 자가 죄를 그쳤음이니

2Thathe no longer should live the rest of histimein the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
2 So that you may give the rest of your lives in the flesh, not to the desires of men, but to the purpose of God.
2 그 후로는 다시 사람의 정욕을 좇지 않고 오직 하나님의 뜻을 좇아 육체의 남은 때를 살게 하려 함이라
3For the timepast of ourlife may sufficeus to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walkedinlasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, andabominableidolatries:
3 Because for long enough, in times past, we have been living after the way of the Gentiles, given up to the desires of the flesh, to drinking and feasting and loose behaviour and unclean worship of images;
3 너희가 음란과 정욕과 술취함과 방탕과 연락과 무법한 우상 숭배를 하여 이방인의 뜻을 좇아 행한 것이 지나간 때가 족하도다
4Whereinthey think it strange that yerunnot with themto the sameexcess of riot, speaking evil ofyou:
4 And they are wondering that you no longer go with them in this violent wasting of life, and are saying evil things of you:
4 이러므로 너희가 저희와 함께 그런 극한 방탕에 달음질하지 아니하는 것을 저희가 이상히 여겨 비방하나
[x]MKJV: In these things they are surprised, [that] you [are] not running with [them] into the same excess of riot, blaspheming. 5Who shall giveaccount to him that isready to judge the quickand the dead.
5 But they will have to give an account of themselves to him who is ready to be the judge of the living and the dead.
6Forfor this cause was the gospel preachedalso to them that are dead, that they might be judgedㆍ according tomen in the flesh, butlive according toGod in the spirit.
6 For this was the reason why the good news of Jesus was given even to the dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but might be living before God in the spirit.
6 이를 위하여 죽은 자들에게도 복음이 전파되었으니 이는 육체로는 사람처럼 심판을 받으나 영으로는 하나님처럼 살게 하려 함이니라
[x]MKJV: For to this [end] the gospel was preached also to [the] dead, that they might be judged according to men in [the] flesh, but live according to God in [the] Spirit. BBE: For this was the reason why the good news of Jesus was given even to the dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but might be living before God in the spirit. KAV: 이런 까닭에 죽어 있는 자들에게도 복음이 선포되었나니 이것은 그들이 육신으로는 사람들을 따라 심판을 받으나 영으로는 [하나님]을 따라 살게 하려 함이라. 7 But the end of all things is near: so be serious in your behaviour and keep on the watch with prayer;
11 If any manspeak, let him speakas the oracles of God; if any manminister, let him do itasof the abilitywhichGodgiveth: thatGodin all things may be glorifiedthroughJesusChrist, to whombepraiseanddominionforever and ever. Amen.
11 If anyone has anything to say, let it be as the words of God; if anyone has the desire to be the servant of others, let him do it in the strength which is given by God; so that in all things God may have the glory through Jesus Christ, whose are the glory and the power for ever.
11 만일 누가 말하려면 하나님의 말씀을 하는것 같이 하고 누가 봉사하려면 하나님의 공급하시는 힘으로 하는것 같이 하라 이는 범사에 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 영광을 받으시게 하려 함이니 그에게 영광과 권능이 세세에 무궁토록 있느니라 아멘
12Beloved, think itnotstrange concerning the fiery trialwhichistotryyou, as though some strange thinghappened unto you:
12 Dear brothers, do not be surprised, as if it was something strange, if your faith is tested as by fire:
12 사랑하는 자들아 너희를 시련하려고 오는 불시험을 이상한 일 당하는것 같이 이상히 여기지 말고

13Butrejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ'ssufferings; that, whenhisglory shall be revealed, ye may be gladalso with exceeding joy.
13 But be glad that you are given a part in the pains of Christ; so that at the revelation of his glory you may have great joy.
13 오직 너희가 그리스도의 고난에 참예하는 것으로 즐거워하라 이는 그의 영광을 나타내실 때에 너희로 즐거워하고 기뻐하게 하려 함이라
14If ye be reproachedfor the name of Christ, happyare ye;for the spirit of gloryand of Godrestethuponyou: ontheirpart he is evil spoken of, buton your part he is glorified.
14 If men say evil things of you because of the name of Christ, happy are you; for the Spirit of glory and of God is resting on you.
14 너희가 그리스도의 이름으로 욕을 받으면 복 있는 자로다 영광의 영 곧 하나님의 영이 너희 위에 계심이라
15Butletnoneofyousufferas a murderer, oras a thief, oras an evildoer, oras a busybody in other men's matters.
15 Let no one among you undergo punishment as a taker of life, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as one who is over-interested in other men's business;
15 너희 중에 누구든지 살인이나 도적질이나 악행이나 남의 일을 간섭하는 자로 고난을 받지 말려니와
[x]MKJV: But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or a meddler in the affairs of others. BBE: Let no one among you undergo punishment as a taker of life, or as a thief, or as an evil-doer, or as one who is over-interested in other men's business; KAV: 그러나 너희 중에 아무도 살인자나 도둑이나 악을 행하는 자나 남의 일에 참견하는 자로 고난을 받지 말라. 16Yetifany man sufferas a Christian, let himnot be ashamed; but let him glorifyGodonthisbehalf.
16 But if he undergoes punishment as a Christian, that is no shame to him; let him give glory to God in this name.
16 만일 그리스도인으로 고난을 받은즉 부끄러워 말고 도리어 그 이름으로 하나님께 영광을 돌리라
17For the timeis come that judgment must beginat the house of God: andifitfirstbeginatus, what shall the endbe of them that obey not the gospel of God?
17 For the time has come for the judging, starting with the church of God; but if it makes a start with us, what will be the end of those who are not under the rule of God?
17 하나님 집에서 심판을 시작할 때가 되었나니 만일 우리에게 먼저 하면 하나님의 복음을 순종치 아니하는 자들의 그 마지막이 어떠하며
[x]MKJV: For the time [has come] for the judgment to begin from the house of God. And if [it] first [begins] from us, what [will be] the end of those disobeying the gospel of God? BBE: For the time has come for the judging, starting with the church of God; but if it makes a start with us, what will be the end of those who are not under the rule of God? KAV: [하나님]의 집에서 반드시 심판을 시작할 때가 이르렀나니 만일 그것이 우리에게서 먼저 시작되면 [하나님]의 복음에 순종하지 아니한 자들의 마지막은 어떠하겠느냐? 18Andif the righteousscarcely be saved, whereshall the ungodlyand the sinnerappear?
18 And if it is hard for even the good man to get salvation, what chance has the man without religion or the sinner?
19Whereforeㆍlet them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of theirsoulsto himin well doing, as unto a faithfulCreator.
19 For this reason let those who by the purpose of God undergo punishment, keep on in well-doing and put their souls into the safe hands of their Maker.
19 그러므로 하나님의 뜻대로 고난을 받는 자들은 또한 선을 행하는 가운데 그 영혼을 미쁘신 조물주께 부탁할찌어다
