거듭난 그리스도인의 성품에 걸맞은 기질이 권장되다. (1-10) 이방인 가운데서의 거룩한 행실이 지시되다. (11,12) 백성이 그들의 세속 통치자에게 마땅한 모든 순종을 하라고 권면받다. (13-17) 또한 종은 그 주인에게, 그리고 모두가 고난받으신 구주의 본을 따라 인내해야 함. (18-25)
3 If you have had a taste of the grace of the Lord:
3 너희가 주의 인자하심을 맛보았으면 그리하라

4Towhomcoming, as unto a livingstone, disallowedindeedofmen, butchosenofGod, andprecious,
4 To whom you come, as to a living stone, not honoured by men, but of great and special value to God;
4 사람에게는 버린 바가 되었으나 하나님께는 택하심을 입은 보배로운 산 돌이신 예수에게 나아와
5Yealso, aslivelystones, are built up a spiritualhouse, an holypriesthood, to offer upspiritualsacrifices, acceptable to GodbyJesusChrist.
5 You, as living stones, are being made into a house of the spirit, a holy order of priests, making those offerings of the spirit which are pleasing to God through Jesus Christ.
5 너희도 산 돌 같이 신령한 집으로 세워지고 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 기쁘게 받으실 신령한 제사를 드릴 거룩한 제사장이 될찌니라
6Whereforealso it is containedin the scripture, Behold, I layinSion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious: and he that believethonhimshall not beconfounded.
6 Because it is said in the Writings, See, I am placing a keystone in Zion, of great and special value; and the man who has faith in him will not be put to shame.
6 경에 기록하였으되 보라 내가 택한 보배롭고 요긴한 모퉁이 돌을 시온에 두노니 저를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당치 아니하리라 하였으니
7 Unto youthereforewhichbelievehe isprecious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stonewhich the buildersdisallowed, the same is madeㆍ the head of the corner,
7 And the value is for you who have faith; but it is said for those without faith, The very stone which the builders put on one side, was made the chief stone of the building;
7 그러므로 믿는 너희에게는 보배이나 믿지 아니하는 자에게는 건축자들의 버린 그 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되고
8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to themwhichstumble at the word, being disobedient: whereuntoㆍalso they were appointed.
8 And, A stone of falling, a rock of trouble; the word is the cause of their fall, because they go against it, and this was the purpose of God.
8 또한 부딪히는 돌과 거치는 반석이 되었다 하니라 저희가 말씀을 순종치 아니하므로 넘어지나니 이는 저희를 이렇게 정하신 것이라

9 But you are a special people, a holy nation, priests and kings, a people given up completely to God, so that you may make clear the virtues of him who took you out of the dark into the light of heaven.
9 오직 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유된 백성이니 이는 너희를 어두운데서 불러 내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 자의 아름다운 덕을 선전하게 하려 하심이라
10Which in time pastwerenot a people, butarenow the people of God: whichhadnot obtained mercy, butnow have obtained mercy.
10 In the past you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; then there was no mercy for you, but now mercy has been given to you.
10 너희가 전에는 백성이 아니더니 이제는 하나님의 백성이요 전에는 긍휼을 얻지 못하였더니 이제는 긍휼을 얻은 자니라

11 사랑하는 자들아 나그네와 행인 같은 너희를 권하노니 영혼을 거스려 싸우는 육체의 정욕을 제어하라
12Havingyourconversationhonestamong the Gentiles: that, whereasthey speak againstyouasevildoers, they maybyyourgoodworks, which they shall behold, glorifyGodin the day of visitation.
12 Being of good behaviour among the Gentiles; so that though they say now that you are evil-doers, they may see your good works and give glory to God when he comes to be their judge.

13Submit yourselves toeveryordinance of manfor the Lord's: sake: whether it be to the king, assupreme;
13 Keep all the laws of men because of the Lord; those of the king, who is over all,
13 인간에 세운 모든 제도를 주를 위하여 순복하되 혹은 위에 있는 왕이나

15Forsois the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolishmen:
15 Because it is God's pleasure that foolish and narrow-minded men may be put to shame by your good behaviour:
18Servants, besubject to yourmasterswithallfear; notonly to the goodandgentle, butalso to the froward.
18 Servants, take orders from your masters with all respect; not only if they are good and gentle, but even if they are bad-humoured.
18 사환들아 범사에 두려워함으로 주인들에게 순복하되 선하고 관용하는 자들에게만 아니라 또한 까다로운 자들에게도 그리하라
[x]MKJV: Servants, [be] subject to [your] masters with all fear, not only to those good and forbearing, but also to the perverse ones. 19Forthisisthankworthy, if a manforconscience toward Godenduregrief, sufferingwrongfully.
19 For it is a sign of grace if a man, desiring to do right in the eyes of God, undergoes pain as punishment for something which he has not done.
20Forwhatgloryis it,if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? butif, when ye do well, andsufferfor it, ye take it patiently, thisisacceptablewithGod.
20 What credit is it if, when you have done evil, you take your punishment quietly? but if you are given punishment for doing right, and take it quietly, this is pleasing to God.
20 죄가 있어 매를 맞고 참으면 무슨 칭찬이 있으리요 오직 선을 행함으로 고난을 받고 참으면 이는 하나님 앞에 아름다우니라

21Forevenhereunto were ye called: becauseChristalsosufferedforus, leavingus an example, that ye should followhissteps:
21 This is God's purpose for you: because Jesus himself underwent punishment for you, giving you an example, so that you might go in his footsteps:
21 이를 위하여 너희가 부르심을 입었으니 그리스도도 너희를 위하여 고난을 받으사 너희에게 본을 끼쳐 그 자취를 따라 오게 하려 하셨느니라
23Who, when he was reviled, revilednotagain; when he suffered, he threatenednot; butcommittedhimself to him that judgethrighteously:
23 To sharp words he gave no sharp answer; when he was undergoing pain, no angry word came from his lips; but he put himself into the hands of the judge of righteousness:
23 욕을 받으시되 대신 욕하지 아니하시고 고난을 받으시되 위협하지 아니하시고 오직 공의로 심판하시는 자에게 부탁하시며
24Who his own selfbareoursinsin his ownbodyon the tree, thatwe, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: bywhosestripes ye were healed.
24 He took our sins on himself, giving his body to be nailed on the tree, so that we, being dead to sin, might have a new life in righteousness, and by his wounds we have been made well.
24 친히 나무에 달려 그 몸으로 우리 죄를 담당하셨으니 이는 우리로 죄에 대하여 죽고 의에 대하여 살게 하려 하심이라 저가 채찍에 맞음으로 너희는 나음을 얻었나니
