2 I am going the way of all the earth: so be strong and be a man;

5 Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiahdid to me, and what he did to the twocaptains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.[x]MKJV: And also you know what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, that he murdered them, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle on his loins, and in his shoes on his feet. 8 And, behold, thou hast with thee Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, which cursed me with a grievouscurse in the day when I went to Mahanaim: but he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword.[x]MKJV: And, behold, with you [is] Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite of Bahurim, who cursed me [with] a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I swore to him by the LORD, saying, I will not put you to death with the sword. 9 Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for thou art a wiseman, and knowest what thou oughtest to do unto him; but his hoar head bring thou down to the grave with blood.[x]MKJV: And now, do not hold him guiltless. For you [are] a wise man, and you know what you ought to do to him. But bring his gray head down to the grave with blood. BBE: But do not let him be free from punishment, for you are a wise man; and it will be clear to you what you have to do with him; see that his white head goes down to the underworld in blood. And the kingsaid unto her, Ask on, my mother: for I will not saytheenay.[x]MKJV: And she said, I desire one small favor of you. Do not turn away my face. And the king said to her, Ask on, my mother, for I will not turn away your face. BBE: Then she said, I have one small request to make to you; do not say, No, to me. And the king said, Say on, my mother, for I will not say, No, to you. 21 And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother to wife.[x]MKJV: And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to your brother Adonijah for a wife. 22 And kingSolomonanswered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou askAbishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elderbrother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.[x]MKJV: And King Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask the kingdom also for him. For he [is] my older brother! Even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah! Take the kingdom for him in addition, for he is my older brother, and Abiathar the priest and Joab, the son of Zeruiah, are on his side. 22 Then King Solomon made answer and said to his mother, Why are you requesting me to give Abishag the Shunammite to Adonijah? Take the kingdom for him in addition, for he is my older brother, and Abiathar the priest and Joab, the son of Zeruiah, are on his side.
22 솔로몬왕이 그 모친에게 대답하여 가로되 어찌하여 아도니야를 위하여 수넴 여자 아비삭을 구하시나이까 저는 나의 형이오니 저를 위하여 왕위도 구하옵소서 저뿐 아니라 제사장 아비아달과 스루야의 아들 요압도 위하여 구하옵소서 하고
23 Then kingSolomonsware by the LORD, saying, Goddo so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.[x]MKJV: And King Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, May God do so to me, and more He shall do, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his life. 23 Then King Solomon took an oath by the Lord, saying, May God's punishment be on me if Adonijah does not give payment for these words with his life.

24 Now therefore, as the LORDliveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.[x]MKJV: And now, [as] the LORD lives, who has established me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has made me a house, as He spoke, Adonijah shall be put to death today. 25 And King Solomon sent Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and he made an attack on him and put him to death.

26 And unto Abiathar the priestsaid the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou artworthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the LordGODbeforeDavid my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.[x]MKJV: And the king said to Abiathar the priest, Go to Anathoth, to your fields, for you [are] worthy of death. 27 So Solomon thrust outAbiathar from being priest unto the LORD; that he might fulfil the word of the LORD, which he spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.[x]MKJV: And Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest to the LORD, so that he might fulfil the word of the LORD which He spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh. 27 So Solomon let Abiathar be priest no longer, so that he might make the word of the Lord come true which he said about the sons of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Then tidingscame to Joab: for Joab had turnedafterAdonijah, though he turned not afterAbsalom. And Joabfled unto the tabernacle of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.[x]MKJV: And the report came to Joab. For Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he did not turn after Absalom. And Joab fled to the tabernacle of the LORD, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. 28 그 소문이 요압에게 들리매 저가 여호와의 장막으로 도망하여 단 뿔을 잡으니 이는 저가 다윗을 떠나 압살롬을 좇지 아니하였으나 아도니야를 좇았음이더라
29 And it was toldkingSolomon that Joab was fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD; and, behold, he isby the altar. 29 And they said to King Solomon, Joab has gone in flight to the Tent of the Lord and is by the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, make an attack on him.
29 혹이 솔로몬왕에게 고하되 요압이 여호와의 장막으로 도망하여 단 곁에 있나이다 솔로몬이 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 보내며 가로되 너는 가서 저를 치라
30 And Benaiahcame to the tabernacle of the LORD, and said unto him, Thus saith the king, Come forth. And he said, Nay; but I will die here. And Benaiahbrought the kingwordagain, saying, Thus saidJoab, and thus he answered me.[x]MKJV: And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD, and said to him, So says the king, come forth! 30 And Benaiah came to the Tent of the Lord and said to him, The king says, Come out. And he said, No; but let death come to me here. And Benaiah went back to the king and gave him word of the answer which Joab had given.

31 And the kingsaid unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and bury him; that thou mayest take away the innocentblood, which Joabshed, from me, and from the house of my father.[x]MKJV: And the king said to him, Do as he has said, and fall on him, and bury him, so that you may take away the innocent blood which Joab shed, from me and from the house of my father. BBE: And the king said, Do as he has said and make an attack on him there, and put his body into the earth; so that you may take away from me and from my family the blood of one put to death by Joab without cause. 32 And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon twomen more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my fatherDavid not knowingthereof, to wit,Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.[x]MKJV: And the LORD shall return his blood on his own head, who fell on two men more righteous and better than he, and killed them with the sword, and my father David not knowing [of it], Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah. BBE: And the Lord will send back his blood on his head, because of the attack he made on two men more upright and better than himself, putting them to the sword without my father's knowledge; even Abner, the son of Ner, captain of the army of Israel, and Amasa, the son of Jether, captain of the army of Judah. 33 Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever: but upon David, and upon his seed, and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be peaceforever from the LORD.[x]MKJV: Yea, He shall turn back their blood on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed forever. But on David, and on his seed, and on his house, and on his throne, there shall be peace forever from the LORD. BBE: So their blood will be on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed for ever; but for David and his seed and his family and the seat of his kingdom, there will be peace for ever from the Lord. 34 So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up, and fell upon him, and slew him: and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.[x]MKJV: And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and fell on him and killed him. 41 시므이가 예루살렘에서부터 가드에 갔다가 돌아온 일을 혹이 솔로몬에게 고한지라
42 And the kingsent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not make thee to swear by the LORD, and protested unto thee, saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any whither, that thou shalt surelydie? and thou saidst unto me, The wordthat I have heardisgood.[x]MKJV: And the king sent and called for Shimei and said to him, Did I not make you swear by the LORD, and warn you, saying, In the day you go out, and you have gone anywhere, you certainly shall know that you shall surely die? And you said to me, The word I have heard [is] good. BBE: Then the king sent for Shimei, and said to him, Did I not make you take an oath by the Lord, protesting to you and saying, Be certain that on the day when you go out from here, wherever you go, death will overtake you? and you said to me, Very well! KAV: 왕이 사람을 보내어 시므이를 불러 그에게 이르되, 내가 너로 하여금 {주}를 두고 맹세하게 하고 네게 단언하여 말하기를, 분명히 알라. 네가 나가서 어디서든 밖에서 다니는 날에는 분명히 죽임을 당하리라, 하지 아니하였느냐? 너도 내게 말하기를, 내가 들은 말씀이 좋으니이다, 하였느니라. 42 Then the king sent for Shimei, and said to him, Did I not make you take an oath by the Lord, protesting to you and saying, Be certain that on the day when you go out from here, wherever you go, death will overtake you? and you said to me, Very well!
42 왕이 사람을 보내어 시므이를 불러서 이르되 내가 너로 여호와를 가리켜 맹세하게 하고 경계하여 이르기를 너는 분명히 알라 네가 밖으로 나가서 어디든지 가는 날에는 죽임을 당하리라 하지 아니하였느냐 너도 내게 말하기를 내가 들은 말씀이 좋으니이다 하였거늘
43 Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the LORD, and the commandment that I have charged thee with?[x]MKJV: Why then have you not kept the oath of the LORD and the command that I have charged you with? BBE: Why then have you not kept the oath of the Lord and the order which I gave you? KAV: 그런데 네가 어찌하여 {주}를 두고 한 맹세와 내가 네게 명한 명령을 지키지 아니하였느냐? 하고 TSK: Why: 2sa 21:2, eze 17:18,19; commandment: 2ch 30:12, ec 8:2, ro 13:5
43 Why then have you not kept the oath of the Lord and the order which I gave you?
43 네가 어찌하여 여호와를 가리켜 한 맹세와 내가 네게 이른 명령을 지키지 아니하였느냐
44 The kingsaid moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father: therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head;[x]MKJV: And the king said to Shimei, You know all the wickedness that your heart knows, what you did to David my father. And the LORD shall return your wickedness on your own head. BBE: And the king said to Shimei, You have knowledge of all the evil which you did to David my father; and now the Lord has sent back your evil on yourself. KAV: 왕이 또 시므이에게 이르되, 네 마음에 은밀히 있는 모든 악 곧 네가 내 아버지에게 행한 바를 네가 아나니 그러므로 {주}께서 네 악을 네 머리로 돌려보내시리라. 44 And the king said to Shimei, You have knowledge of all the evil which you did to David my father; and now the Lord has sent back your evil on yourself.
44 왕이 또 시므이에게 이르되 네가 무릇 네 마음의 아는 모든 악 곧 내 부친에게 행한바를 네가 스스로 아나니 여호와께서 네 악을 네 머리로 돌려 보내시리라
45 And kingSolomonshall beblessed, and the throne of David shall be establishedbefore the LORDforever.[x]MKJV: And King Solomon [shall be] blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the LORD forever. BBE: But a blessing will be on King Solomon, and the kingdom of David will keep its place before the Lord for ever. KAV: 그러나 솔로몬 왕은 복을 받고 다윗의 왕좌는 영원히 {주} 앞에 굳게 서리라, 하고 TSK: blessed: ps 21:6, ps 72:17; the throne: 1ki 2:24,33,34, pr 25:5, isa 9:6,7
45 But a blessing will be on King Solomon, and the kingdom of David will keep its place before the Lord for ever.
45 그러나 솔로몬왕은 복을 받고 다윗의 위는 영원히 여호와 앞에서 견고히 서리라 하고
46 So the kingcommandedBenaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.[x]MKJV: And the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he went out and fell on him so that he died. And the kingdom was made sure in the hand of Solomon. BBE: So the king gave orders to Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada; and he went out and, falling on him, put him to death. 46 So the king gave orders to Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada; and he went out and, falling on him, put him to death. And Solomon's authority over the kingdom was complete.
46 여호야다의 아들 브나야에게 명하매 저가 나가서 시므이를 쳐서 죽게 한지라 이에 나라가 솔로몬의 손에 견고하여지니라
