1 Ahab gave Jezebel news of all Elijah had done, and how he had put all the prophets to death with the sword.

4 But he himself went a day'sjourney into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.[x]MKJV: And he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he begged for his life, that he might die. And he said, It is enough. O LORD, take away my life. For I [am] no better than my fathers. 6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. 9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORDcame to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?[x]MKJV: And he came there to a cave and stayed there. And behold, the word of the LORD [came] to him, and He said to him, What [are] you [doing] here, Elijah? BBE: And there he went into a hole in the rock for the night; then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, What are you doing here, Elijah? 10 And he said, I have been veryjealous for the LORDGod of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.[x]MKJV: And he said, I have been very zealous for Jehovah the God of Hosts. For the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, thrown down Your altars, and have slain Your prophets with the sword. And I, I alone, am left. And they seek to take my life away. BBE: And he said, I have been burning for the honour of the Lord, the God of armies; for the children of Israel have not kept your agreement; they have made destruction of your altars, and have put your prophets to death with the sword: till I, even I, am the only one living; and now they are attempting to take away my life. 10 저가 대답하되 내가 만군의 하나님 여호와를 위하여 열심이 특심하오니 이는 이스라엘 자손이 주의 언약을 버리고 주의 단을 헐며 칼로 주의 선지자들을 죽였음이오며 오직 나만 남았거늘 저희가 내 생명을 찾아 취하려 하나이다
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mountbefore the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strongwindrent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocksbefore the LORD; but the LORDwas not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORDwas not in the earthquake:[x]MKJV: And He said, Go forth and stand on the mountain before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains, and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD. [ But] the LORD [was] not in the wind. And after the wind was an earthquake, [but] the LORD was not in the earthquake. BBE: Then he said, Go out and take your place on the mountain before the Lord. Then the Lord went by, and mountains were parted by the force of a great wind, and rocks were broken before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind there was an earth-shock, but the Lord was not in the earth-shock. 11 Then he said, Go out and take your place on the mountain before the Lord. And after the wind there was an earth-shock, but the Lord was not in the earth-shock.
11 여호와께서 가라사대 너는 나가서 여호와의 앞에서 산에 섰으라 하시더니 여호와께서 지나가시는데 여호와의 앞에 크고 강한 바람이 산을 가르고 바위를 부수나 바람 가운데 여호와께서 계시지 아니하며 바람 후에 지진이 있으나 지진 가운데도 여호와께서 계시지 아니하며
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORDwas not in the fire: and after the fire a stillsmallvoice.[x]MKJV: And after the earthquake was a fire, [but] the LORD [was] not in the fire. And after the fire [was] a still, small voice. BBE: And after the earth-shock a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, the sound of a soft breath. 12 또 지진 후에 불이 있으나 불 가운데도 여호와께서 계시지 아니하더니 불 후에 세미한 소리가 있는지라
13 And it was so, when Elijahheardit that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?[x]MKJV: And it happened when Elijah heard, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out, and stood at the cave entrance. And behold, a voice [came] to him and said, What [are] you [doing] here, Elijah? BBE: And Elijah, hearing it, went out, covering his face with his robe, and took his place in the opening of the hole. And there a voice came to him saying, What are you doing here, Elijah? 15 And the LORDsaid unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anointHazaelto beking over Syria:[x]MKJV: And the LORD said to him, Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus. And when you come, anoint Hazael [to be] king over Syria. And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint [to be] prophet in your place. BBE: And on Jehu, son of Nimshi, making him king over Israel; and on Elisha, the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, to be prophet in your place. 17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehuslay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elishaslay.[x]MKJV: And it will be, whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill. And whoever escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill. BBE: And it will come about that the man who gets away safe from the sword of Hazael, Jehu will put to death; and whoever gets away safe from the sword of Jehu, Elisha will put to death. 18 Yet I have leftmeseventhousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.[x]MKJV: Yet I have left seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him. BBE: But I will keep safe seven thousand in Israel, all those whose knees have not been bent to Baal, and whose mouths have given him no kisses. 19 So he departed thence, and foundElisha the son of Shaphat, who wasplowingwithtwelveㆍyokeof oxenbefore him, and he with the twelfthㆍ: and Elijahpassed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.[x]MKJV: And he left there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, and he [was] plowing; twelve pairs [of oxen were] before him, and he [was] with the twelfth. And Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. BBE: So he went away from there and came across Elisha, the son of Shaphat, ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen, he himself walking with the twelfth; and Elijah went up to him and put his robe on him. 19 엘리야가 거기서 떠나 사밧의 아들 엘리사를 만나니 저가 열 두 겨리 소를 앞세우고 밭을 가는데 자기는 열둘째 겨리와 함께 있더라 엘리야가 그리로 건너가서 겉옷을 그의 위에 던졌더니
20 And he left the oxen, and ranafterElijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will followㆍ thee. And he said unto him, Go backagain: for what have I done to thee?[x]MKJV: And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, please, let me kiss my father and my mother, and I will follow you. And he said to him, Go back again, for what have I done to you? 20 저가 소를 버리고 엘리야에게로 달려가서 이르되 청컨대 나로 내 부모와 입맞추게 하소서 그리한 후에 내가 당신을 따르리이다 엘리야가 저에게 이르되 돌아가라 내가 네게 어떻게 행하였느냐 하니라
21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and wentafterElijah, and ministered unto him.[x]MKJV: And he turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and killed them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave it to the people, and they ate. And he arose and went after Elijah, and ministered to him. 21 엘리사가 저를 떠나 돌아가서 소 한 겨리를 취하여 잡고 소의 기구를 불살라 그 고기를 삶아 백성에게 주어 먹게 하고 일어나 가서 엘리야를 좇으며 수종 들었더라
