3 And all the men of Israel came to Rehoboam and said,

4 Thy fathermade our yokegrievous: now therefore make thou the grievousservice of thy father, and his heavyyoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.[x]MKJV: Your father made our yoke hard. And now lighten the hard service of your father, and the heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you. BBE: Your father put a hard yoke on us: if you will make the conditions under which your father kept us down less cruel, and the weight of the yoke he put on us less hard, then we will be your servants. 5 And he said unto them, Depart yet forthreedays, then come again to me. And the peopledeparted.[x]MKJV: And he said to them, Go; yet in three days come back to me. And the people went away. 6 And kingRehoboamconsulted with the old men, that stoodbeforeSolomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I mayanswer this people?[x]MKJV: And king Rehoboam talked with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he still lived, and said, How do you advise to return a word to this people? BBE: Then King Rehoboam took the opinion of the old men who had been with Solomon his father when he was living, and said, In your opinion, what answer am I to give to this people? 6 Then King Rehoboam took the opinion of the old men who had been with Solomon his father when he was living, and said, In your opinion, what answer am I to give to this people?
6 르호보암왕이 그 부친 솔로몬의 생전에 그 앞에 모셨던 노인들과 의논하여 가로되 너희는 어떻게 교도하여 이 백성에게 대답하게 하겠느뇨
7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speakgoodwords to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.[x]MKJV: And they spoke to him, saying, If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever. BBE: And they said to him, If you will be a servant to this people today, caring for them and giving them a gentle answer, then they will be your servants for ever. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stoodbefore him:[x]MKJV: But he left the counsel of the old men which they had advised him, and talked with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 10 And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy fathermade our yokeheavy, but make thou itlighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My littlefinger shall be thicker than my father'sloins.[x]MKJV: And the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, So shall you speak to this people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make [it] lighter for us, so you shall say to them: My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins. 11 And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavyyoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.[x]MKJV: And now my father loaded you with a heavy yoke, and I will add to your yoke. My father has whipped you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. BBE: If my father put a hard yoke on you, I will make it harder: my father gave you punishment with whips, but I will give you blows with snakes. KAV: 이제 내 아버지가 너희에게 무거운 멍에를 지워 주었으나 나는 너희 멍에에 더하리라. 내 아버지는 채찍으로 너희를 벌하였으나 나는 전갈로 너희를 벌하리라, 하소서, 하니라. 12 So Jeroboam and all the peoplecame to Rehoboam the thirdday, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the thirdday.[x]MKJV: And they came, Jeroboam and all the people, to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day. BBE: So all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had given orders, saying, Come back to me the third day. 12 So all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had given orders, saying, Come back to me the third day.

13 And the king gave them a rough answer, giving no attention to the suggestion of the old men;
13 왕이 포학한 말로 백성에게 대답할쌔 노인의 교도를 버리고
14 And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My fathermade your yokeheavy, and I will add to your yoke: my fatheralsochastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.[x]MKJV: and spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke. My father whipped you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. BBE: But giving them the answer put forward by the young men, saying, My father made your yoke hard, but I will make it harder; my father gave you punishment with whips, but I will give it with snakes. 15 Wherefore the kinghearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORDspakebyAhijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.[x]MKJV: And the king did not listen to the people, for the cause was from the LORD, that He might perform His saying which the LORD spoke by Ahijah of Shiloh to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. BBE: So the king did not give ear to the people; and this came about by the purpose of the Lord, so that what he had said by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam, son of Nebat, might be effected. 16So when all Israelsaw that the kinghearkened not unto them, the peopleanswered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have weinheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israeldeparted unto their tents.[x]MKJV: And all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, and the people answered the king, saying, What part do we have in David? Yea, [there is] no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now see to your house, O David! And Israel went to its tents. BBE: And when all Israel saw that the king would give no attention to them, the people in answer said to the king, What part have we in David? what is our heritage in the son of Jesse? to your tents, O Israel; now see to your people, David. 16 온 이스라엘이 자기들의 말을 왕이 듣지 아니함을 보고 왕에게 대답하여 가로되 우리가 다윗과 무슨 관계가 있느뇨 이새의 아들에게서 업이 없도다 이스라엘아 너희의 장막으로 돌아가라 다윗이여 이제 너는 네 집이나 돌아보라 하고 이스라엘이 그 장막으로 돌아가니라
17 But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboamreigned over them.[x]MKJV: [As for] the sons of Israel, those living in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. BBE: (But Rehoboam was still king over those of the children of Israel who were living in the towns of Judah.) KAV: 그러나 유다의 도시들에 거하던 이스라엘 자손으로 말하건대 르호보암이 그들을 통치하니라. 18 Then kingRehoboamsentAdoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israelstoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore kingRehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.[x]MKJV: And King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who [was] over the tribute. And all Israel stoned him with stones so that he died. And King Rehoboam made haste to go up to get into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem. 20 온 이스라엘이 여로보암의 돌아왔다 함을 듣고 보내어 저를 공회로 청하여다가 온 이스라엘의 왕을 삼았으니 유다 지파 외에는 다윗의 집을 좇는 자가 없으니라
21 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscorethousand chosen men, which were warriorsㆍ, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdomagain to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.[x]MKJV: And when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, and he gathered all the house of Judah with the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon. 23 Say to Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the men of Judah and Benjamin and the rest of the people:

24 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thingis from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.[x]MKJV: So says the LORD, You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers the sons of Israel. Each man return to his house. For this thing is from Me. And they listened to the word of the LORD and turned to go back, according to the word of the LORD. 27 If this people go up to dosacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboamking of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboamking of Judah.[x]MKJV: If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah. 27 만일 이 백성이 예루살렘에 있는 여호와의 전에 제사를 드리고자 하여 올라가면 이 백성의 마음이 유다 왕 된 그 주 르호보암에게로 돌아가서 나를 죽이고 유다 왕 르호보암에게로 돌아가리로다 하고
28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and madetwocalvesofgold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.[x]MKJV: And the king took counsel, and made two calves [of] gold and said to them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Behold your gods, O, Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt! 29 And he put one in Beth-el and the other in Dan.
29 하나는 벧엘에 두고 하나는 단에 둔지라
30 And this thing became a sin: for the peoplewentto worshipbefore the one, even unto Dan.[x]MKJV: And this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan. 31 And he made an house of high places, and madepriests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.[x]MKJV: And he made a house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, who were not the sons of Levi. 32 And Jeroboamordained a feast in the eighthmonth, on the fifteenthㆍday of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. 32 And Jeroboam gave orders for a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast which is kept in Judah, and he went up to the altar. 32 팔월 곧 그 달 십 오일로 절기를 정하여 유다의 절기와 비슷하게 하고 단에 올라가되 벧엘에서 그와 같이 행하여 그 만든 송아지에게 제사를 드렸으며 그 지은 산당의 제사장은 벧엘에서 세웠더라
33 So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenthㆍday of the eighthmonth, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.[x]MKJV: And he offered on the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month which he had devised out of his own heart.
