2 And Davidsaid to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, numberIsrael from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may knowit.[x]MKJV: And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go number Israel from Beer-sheba to Dan. 2 And David said to Joab and the captains of the people, Now let all Israel, from Beer-sheba to Dan, be numbered; and give me word so that I may be certain of their number.
2 다윗이 요압과 백성의 두목에게 이르되 너희는 가서 브엘세바에서부터 단까지 이스라엘을 계수하고 돌아와서 내게 고하여 그 수효를 알게 하라
3 And Joabanswered, The LORD make his people an hundredtimes so many more as theybe: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord'sservants? why then doth my lordrequire this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?[x]MKJV: And Joab answered, May the LORD add to His people a hundred times, but my lord the king, [are] they not all my lord's servants? Why then does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel? BBE: And Joab said, May the Lord make his people a hundred times more in number than they are; but, my lord king, are they not all my lord's servants? why would my lord have this done? why will he become a cause of sin to Israel? KAV: 요압이 응답하되, {주}께서 자신의 백성을 지금보다 백 배나 많게 하시기를 원하나이다. 하오나 내 주 왕이여, 그들이 다 내 주의 종이 아니니이까? 그런데 내 주께서 어찌하여 이 일을 요구하시나이까? 어찌하여 왕께서 이스라엘에게 범법의 원인이 되려 하시나이까? 하였으나
3 And Joab said, May the Lord make his people a hundred times more in number than they are; but, my lord king, are they not all my lord's servants? why would my lord have this done? why will he become a cause of sin to Israel?
3 요압이 가로되 여호와께서 그 백성을 지금보다 백배나 더하시기를 원하나이다 내 주 왕이여 이 백성이 다 내 주의 종이 아니니이까 내 주께서 어찌하여 이 일을 명하시나이까 어찌하여 이스라엘로 죄가 있게 하시나이까 하나
4 Nevertheless the king'swordprevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joabdeparted, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.[x]MKJV: But the king's word prevailed against Joab. And Joab departed and went up and down all Israel, and came again to Jerusalem. BBE: But the king's word was stronger than Joab's. So Joab went out and went through all Israel and came to Jerusalem. KAV: 그럼에도 불구하고 왕의 말이 요압을 이겼으므로 요압이 떠나 온 이스라엘을 두루 다닌 뒤에 예루살렘으로 돌아오니라.

5 And Joabgave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they ofIsrael were a thousandthousand and an hundredthousandmen that drewsword: and Judahwasfourhundred threescore and tenthousandmen that drewsword.[x]MKJV: And Joab gave the sum of the census of the people to David. And in all Israel there were one million and a hundred thousand men who drew sword. And in Judah [were] four hundred and seventy thousand men who drew sword. 5 And Joab gave David the number of all the people; all the men of Israel, able to take up arms, were one million, one hundred thousand men; and those of Judah were four hundred and seventy thousand men, able to take up arms.

6 But Levi and Benjamincounted he not among them: for the king'sword was abominable to Joab.[x]MKJV: But Levi and Benjamin he did not count among them; for the king's word was evil to Joab. BBE: But Levi and Benjamin were not numbered among them, for Joab was disgusted with the king's order. KAV: 그러나 요압이 왕의 말을 가증히 여겼으므로 그들 중에서 레위와 베냐민은 세지 아니하였더라.
6 But Levi and Benjamin were not numbered among them, for Joab was disgusted with the king's order.
6 요압이 왕의 명령을 밉게 여겨 레위와 베냐민 사람은 계수하지 아니하였더라
7 And God was displeasedㆍ with this thing; therefore he smoteIsrael.[x]MKJV: And it was evil in the eyes of God as to this thing. And He struck Israel. BBE: And God was not pleased with this thing; so he sent punishment on Israel. KAV: [하나님]께서 이 일을 기뻐하지 아니하셨으므로 이스라엘을 치시매
7 And God was not pleased with this thing; so he sent punishment on Israel.

8 And Davidsaid unto God, I have sinnedgreatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done veryfoolishly.[x]MKJV: And David said to God, I have sinned greatly because I have done this thing. But now, I beseech You, remove the iniquity of Your servant for I have done very foolishly. BBE: Then David said to God, Great has been my sin in doing this; but now, be pleased to take away the sin of your servant, for I have done very foolishly. KAV: 다윗이 [하나님]께 아뢰되, 내가 이 일을 행하였으므로 크게 죄를 지었나이다. 그러나 이제 간청하옵나니 주의 종의 불법을 없이 하여 주옵소서. 내가 심히 어리석게 행하였나이다, 하니라.
8 Then David said to God, Great has been my sin in doing this; but now, be pleased to take away the sin of your servant, for I have done very foolishly.
8 다윗이 하나님께 아뢰되 내가 이 일을 행함으로 큰 죄를 범하였나이다 이제 간구하옵나니 종의 죄를 사하여 주옵소서 내가 심히 미련하게 행하였나이다 하니라
9 And the LORDspake unto Gad, David'sseer, saying,[x]MKJV: And the LORD spoke to Gad, David's seer, saying, BBE: Then the word of the Lord came to Gad, David's seer, saying, KAV: ¶ {주}께서 다윗의 선견자 갓에게 말씀하여 이르시되,
9 Then the word of the Lord came to Gad, David's seer, saying,

10Go and tellDavid, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee threethings:choose thee one of them, that I may doit unto thee.[x]MKJV: Go and speak to David, saying, So says the LORD: I offer you three [things]. Choose one of them so that I may do it to you. BBE: Go and say to David, The Lord says, Three things are offered to you: say which of them you will have, so that I may do it to you. KAV: 가서 다윗에게 고하여 이르기를, {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 내가 네게 세 가지를 주노니 너는 그 가운데 하나를 택하라. 내가 그것을 네게 행하리라, 하라.
10 Go and say to David, The Lord says, Three things are offered to you: say which of them you will have, so that I may do it to you.
10 가서 다윗에게 말하여 이르기를 여호와의 말씀이 내가 네게 세가지를 보이노니 그 중에서 하나를 택하라 내가 그것을 네게 행하리라 하셨다 하라
11 So Gadcame to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee[x]MKJV: And Gad came to David and said to him, So says the LORD, Choose for yourself: BBE: So Gad came to David and said to him, The Lord says, Take whichever you will: KAV: 이에 갓이 다윗에게 나아가 그에게 이르되, {주}께서 이같이 말씀하시기를, 너는 택하라.
11 So Gad came to David and said to him, The Lord says, Take whichever you will:
11 갓이 다윗에게 나아가 고하되 여호와의 말씀이 너는 마음대로 택하라
12 Either threeyearsfamine; or threemonths to be destroyedbefore thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemiesovertakeththee;or else threedays the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORDdestroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.[x]MKJV: either three years of famine, or three months to be swept away before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtake you, or else three days of the sword of the LORD, even the plague in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the border of Israel. And now say what word I shall bring again to Him who sent me. BBE: Three years when there will not be enough food; or three months of war, when you will go in flight before your haters, being in great danger of the sword; or three days of the sword of the Lord, disease in the land, and the angel of the Lord taking destruction through all the land of Israel. Now give thought to the answer I am to take back to him who sent me. KAV: 삼 년 동안 기근이 들게 할 것인지 혹은 석 달 동안 네 원수들의 칼이 너를 따라잡아 네가 네 원수들 앞에서 패하게 될 것인지 혹은 {주}의 칼 곧 역병이 사흘 동안 이 땅에 있어 {주}의 천사가 이스라엘 온 지역을 두루 멸하게 할 것인지 택하라, 하시나니 그러므로 이제 나를 보내신 분에게 내가 무슨 말을 다시 전해야 할지 친히 알려 주소서, 하매
12 Three years when there will not be enough food; or three months of war, when you will go in flight before your haters, being in great danger of the sword; or three days of the sword of the Lord, disease in the land, and the angel of the Lord taking destruction through all the land of Israel. Now give thought to the answer I am to take back to him who sent me.
12 혹 삼년 기근일찌, 혹 네가 석달을 대적에게 패하여 대적의 칼에 쫓길 일일찌, 혹 여호와의 칼 곧 온역이 사흘 동안 이 땅에 유행하며 여호와의 사자가 이스라엘 온 지경을 멸할 일일찌 하셨나니 내가 무슨 말로 나를 보내신 이에게 대답할 것을 결정하소서
13 And Davidsaid unto Gad, I am in a greatstrait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for verygreatare his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.[x]MKJV: And David said to Gad, I am in great distress. Let me fall now into the hand of the LORD, for His mercies [are] very great. But do not let me fall into the hand of man. BBE: And David said to Gad, This is a hard decision for me to make: let me come into the hands of the Lord, for great are his mercies: let me not come into the hands of men. KAV: 다윗이 갓에게 이르되, 내가 큰 곤경에 빠졌도다. {주}의 긍휼은 심히 크니 이제 내가 그분의 손에 빠지고 사람의 손에 빠지지 아니하기를 원하노라, 하니라.
13 And David said to Gad, This is a hard decision for me to make: let me come into the hands of the Lord, for great are his mercies: let me not come into the hands of men.
13 다윗이 갓에게 이르되 내가 곤경에 있도다 여호와께서는 긍휼이 심히 크시니 내가 그의 손에 빠지고 사람의 손에 빠지지 않기를 원하나이다
14 So the LORDsentpestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israelseventythousandmen.[x]MKJV: And the LORD sent a plague on Israel. And there fell seventy thousand men of Israel. BBE: So the Lord sent disease on Israel, causing the death of seventy thousand men. KAV: ¶ 이에 {주}께서 이스라엘 위에 역병을 보내시니 이스라엘 중에서 칠만 명이 쓰러지니라.
14 So the Lord sent disease on Israel, causing the death of seventy thousand men.
14 이에 여호와께서 이스라엘 백성에게 온역을 내리시매 이스라엘 백성의 죽은 자가 칠만이었더라
15 And Godsent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORDbeheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORDstood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.[x]MKJV: And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. And as he was destroying, the LORD looked. And He repented of the evil and said to the angel who destroyed, Enough! Stay your hand now! And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. BBE: And God sent an angel to Jerusalem for its destruction: and when he was about to do so, the Lord saw, and had regret for the evil, and said to the angel of destruction, It is enough; do no more. Now the angel of the Lord was by the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. KAV: [하나님]께서 예루살렘을 멸하시려고 한 천사를 그곳에 보내셨는데 그가 멸할 때에 {주}께서 보시고 그 재앙에서 뜻을 돌이키사 백성을 멸한 천사에게 이르시되, 족하다. 이제 네 손을 멈추라, 하시거늘 그때에 {주}의 천사가 여부스 족속 오르난의 타작마당 옆에 섰더라.
15 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem for its destruction: and when he was about to do so, the Lord saw, and had regret for the evil, and said to the angel of destruction, It is enough; do no more. Now the angel of the Lord was by the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
15 하나님이 예루살렘을 멸하러 사자를 보내셨더니 사자가 멸하려 할 때에 여호와께서 보시고 이 재앙 내림을 뉘우치사 멸하는 사자에게 이르시되 족하다 이제는 네 손을 거두라 하시니 때에 여호와의 사자가 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작 마당 곁에 선지라
16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORDstand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawnsword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the eldersof Israel, who wereclothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.[x]MKJV: And David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of the LORD standing between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. And David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces. BBE: And David, lifting up his eyes, saw the angel of the Lord there between earth and heaven, with an uncovered sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the responsible men, clothed in haircloth, went down on their faces. KAV: 다윗이 눈을 들어 보매 {주}의 천사가 땅과 하늘 사이에 섰고 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 예루살렘을 향해 내밀었으므로 그때에 다윗과 이스라엘의 장로들이 굵은 베옷을 입고 얼굴을 대고 엎드리니라.
16 And David, lifting up his eyes, saw the angel of the Lord there between earth and heaven, with an uncovered sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the responsible men, clothed in haircloth, went down on their faces.
16 다윗이 눈을 들어보매 여호와의 사자가 천지 사이에 섰고 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 예루살렘 편을 가리켰는지라 다윗이 장로들로 더불어 굵은 베를 입고 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려
17 And Davidsaid unto God, Is it not I thatcommanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evilindeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father'shouse; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.[x]MKJV: And David said to God, Did not I command to number the people? I am the one who has sinned and done evil indeed. But these sheep, what have they done? I pray You, let Your hand be on me, O LORD my God, and on my father's house, but not on Your people, that they should be plagued. BBE: And David said to God, Was it not I who gave the order for the people to be numbered? It is I who have done the sin and the great wrong; but these are only sheep; what have they done? let your hand, O Lord God, be lifted up against me and against my family, but not against your people to send disease on them. KAV: 다윗이 [하나님]께 아뢰되, 명령을 내려 백성의 수를 세게 한 자는 바로 내가 아니니이까? 바로 내가 죄를 짓고 참으로 악을 행하였나이다. 하오나 이 양들로 말하건대 그들이 무슨 일을 하였나이까? 원하건대 오 {주} 내 [하나님]이여, 주의 손을 나와 내 아버지 집 위에 두시고 주의 백성 위에 두지 마셔서 그들이 재앙을 받지 않게 하옵소서, 하니라.
17 And David said to God, Was it not I who gave the order for the people to be numbered? It is I who have done the sin and the great wrong; but these are only sheep; what have they done? let your hand, O Lord God, be lifted up against me and against my family, but not against your people to send disease on them.
17 하나님께 아뢰되 명하여 백성을 계수하게 한 자가 내가 아니니이까 범죄하고 악을 행한 자는 곧 내니이다 이 양무리는 무엇을 행하였나이까 청컨대 나의 하나님 여호와여 주의 손으로 나와 내 아비의 집을 치시고 주의 백성에게 재앙을 내리지 마옵소서
18 Then the angel of the LORDcommandedGad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.[x]MKJV: And the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David that David should go up and set up an altar to the LORD in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. BBE: Then the angel of the Lord gave orders to Gad to say to David that he was to go and put up an altar to the Lord on the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. KAV: ¶ 그때에 {주}의 천사가 갓에게 명령하여 다윗에게 이르기를 다윗은 올라가 여부스 족속 오르난의 타작마당에서 {주}께 제단을 쌓으라고 하시므로
18 Then the angel of the Lord gave orders to Gad to say to David that he was to go and put up an altar to the Lord on the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
18 여호와의 사자가 갓을 명하여 다윗에게 이르시기를 올라가서 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작마당에서 여호와를 위하여 단을 쌓으라 하신지라
19 And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.[x]MKJV: And David went up at the word of Gad which he spoke in the name of the LORD. BBE: And David went up, as Gad had said in the name of the Lord. KAV: 갓의 말 곧 그가 {주}의 이름으로 말한 말대로 다윗이 올라가니라.

20 And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his foursons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshingwheat.[x]MKJV: And Ornan turned back and saw the angel. And his four sons with him hid themselves. And Ornan was threshing wheat. BBE: And Ornan, turning back, saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him went to a secret place. Now Ornan was crushing his grain. KAV: 이제 오르난이 밀을 타작하다가 몸을 돌이켜서 천사를 보고 자기와 함께한 네 아들과 함께 숨었더라.
20 And Ornan, turning back, saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him went to a secret place. Now Ornan was crushing his grain.

21 And as Davidcame to Ornan, Ornanlooked and sawDavid, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with hisface to the ground.[x]MKJV: And David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David. And he went out of the threshing-floor and bowed to David with his face to the ground. BBE: And when David came, Ornan, looking, saw him, and came out from the grain-floor and went down on his face to the earth before him. KAV: 다윗이 오르난에게 나아가매 오르난이 바라보다가 다윗을 보고 타작마당에서 나아가 얼굴을 땅에 대고 다윗에게 절하니라.
21 And when David came, Ornan, looking, saw him, and came out from the grain-floor and went down on his face to the earth before him.

22 Then Davidsaid to Ornan, Grant me the place of thisthreshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the fullprice: that the plague may be stayed from the people.[x]MKJV: Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, so that I may build an altar in it to the LORD. You shall give it to me for the full price, so that the plague may be stayed from the people. BBE: Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place where this grain-floor is, so that I may put up an altar here to the Lord: let me have it for its full price; so that this disease may be stopped among the people. KAV: 그때에 다윗이 오르난에게 이르되, 이 타작마당이 있는 곳을 내게 넘기라. 내가 그 안에서 {주}께 제단을 쌓으리니 너는 충분한 값을 받고 그것을 내게 넘길지니라. 그리하면 재앙이 백성에게서 떠나고 그치리라, 하매
22 Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place where this grain-floor is, so that I may put up an altar here to the Lord: let me have it for its full price; so that this disease may be stopped among the people.
22 다윗이 오르난에게 이르되 이 타작하는 곳을 내게 붙이라 너는 상당한 값으로 붙이라 내가 여호와를 위하여 여기 한 단을 쌓으리니 그리하면 온역이 백성 중에서 그치리라
23 And Ornansaid unto David, Takeit to thee, and let my lord the kingdothat which isgood in his eyes: lo, I givethee the oxenalso for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.[x]MKJV: And Ornan said to David, Take for yourself, and let my lord the king do what is good in his eyes. Lo, I give the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the food offering. I give it all. BBE: And Ornan said to David, Take it, and let my lord the king do what seems right to him. See, I give you the oxen for burned offerings and the grain-cleaning instruments for fire-wood, and the grain for the meal offering; I give it all. KAV: 오르난이 다윗에게 이르되, 왕은 그것을 취하소서. 내 주 왕은 왕의 눈에 좋은 것을 행하소서. 보소서, 내가 또한 소들은 번제 헌물로 타작하는 기구는 나무로 밀은 음식 헌물로 삼으시도록 왕에게 드리나니 곧 내가 그것을 다 드리나이다, 하매
23 And Ornan said to David, Take it, and let my lord the king do what seems right to him. See, I give you the oxen for burned offerings and the grain-cleaning instruments for fire-wood, and the grain for the meal offering; I give it all.
23 오르난이 다윗에게 고하되 왕은 취하소서 내 주 왕의 좋게 여기시는대로 행하소서 보소서 내가 이것들을 드리나이다 소들은 번제물로, 곡식 떠는 기계는 화목으로, 밀은 소제물로 삼으시기 위하여 다 드리나이다
24 And kingDavidsaid to Ornan, Nay; but I will verilybuy it for the fullprice: for I will not takethat which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.[x]MKJV: And King David said to Ornan, No, but I will truly buy it for the full silver. For I will not take what [is] yours for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost. BBE: And King David said to Ornan, No; I will certainly give you the full price for it, because I will not take for the Lord what is yours, or give a burned offering without payment. KAV: 다윗 왕이 오르난에게 이르되, 아니라. 내가 참으로 충분한 값을 주고 그것을 사리라. 내가 {주}께 드리려고 네 것을 취하지 아니할 것이며 값을 치르지 않고서는 번제 헌물을 드리지도 아니하리라, 하니라.
24 And King David said to Ornan, No; I will certainly give you the full price for it, because I will not take for the Lord what is yours, or give a burned offering without payment.
24 다윗왕이 오르난에게 이르되 그렇지 아니하다 내가 결단코 상당한 값으로 사리라 내가 여호와께 드리려고 네 물건을 취하지 아니하겠고 값 없이는 번제를 드리지도 아니하리라 하고

26 And David put up an altar there to the Lord, offering burned offerings and peace-offerings with prayers to the Lord; and he gave him an answer from heaven, sending fire on the altar of burned offering.
26 다윗이 거기서 여호와를 위하여 단을 쌓고 번제와 화목제를 드려 여호와께 아뢰었더니 여호와께서 하늘에서부터 번제단 위에 불을 내려 응답하시고
27 And the LORDcommanded the angel; and he put up his swordagain into the sheath thereof.[x]MKJV: And the LORD commanded the angel, and he put up his sword again into its sheath. BBE: Then the Lord gave orders to the angel, and he put back his sword into its cover. KAV: {주}께서 천사에게 명령하시매 그가 다시 자기 칼을 칼집에 꽂았더라.

BBE: At that time, when David saw that the Lord had given him an answer on the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he made an offering there. KAV: ¶ 그때에 다윗이 {주}께서 여부스 족속 오르난의 타작마당에서 자기에게 응답하시는 것을 보고는 거기서 희생물을 드렸으니
28 At that time, when David saw that the Lord had given him an answer on the grain-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he made an offering there.
28 이 때에 다윗이 여호와께서 여부스 사람 오르난의 타작마당에서 응답하심을 보고 거기서 제사를 드렸으니

30 But Davidcould not gobefore it to inquire of God: for he was afraidbecause of the sword of the angel of the LORD.[x]MKJV: But David could not go before it to ask of God, for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD. BBE: But David was not able to go before it to get directions from the Lord, so great was his fear of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
