1 Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammondied, and his sonreigned in his stead.[x]MKJV: And it happened after this, Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon died. And his son reigned in his place. BBE: Now it came about after this that death came to Nahash, the king of the children of Ammon, and his son became king in his place. KAV: 이제 이 일 후에 암몬 자손의 왕 나하스가 죽고 그의 아들이 그를 대신하여 통치하니라.

2 And Davidsaid, I will showkindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his fathershowedkindness to me. And Davidsentmessengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of Davidcame into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.[x]MKJV: And David said, I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the sons of Ammon to Hanun, in order to comfort him. BBE: And David said, I will be a friend to Hanun, the son of Nahash, because his father was a friend to me. So David sent men to him, to give him words of comfort on account of his father. And the servants of David came to Hanun, to the land of the children of Ammon, offering him comfort. KAV: 다윗이 이르되, 하눈의 아버지가 전에 내게 친절을 베풀었으므로 내가 나하스의 아들 하눈에게 친절을 베풀리라, 하고 사자들을 보내어 그의 아버지에 관하여 그를 위로하게 하니라. 이에 다윗의 신하들이 암몬 자손의 땅에 이르러 하눈에게 나아가 그를 위로하려 하였으나
2 And David said, I will be a friend to Hanun, the son of Nahash, because his father was a friend to me. So David sent men to him, to give him words of comfort on account of his father. And the servants of David came to Hanun, to the land of the children of Ammon, offering him comfort.
2 다윗이 가로되 하눈의 아비 나하스가 전에 내게 은혜를 베풀었으니 이제 내가 그 아들 하눈에게 은혜를 베풀리라 하고 사자를 보내어 그 아비 죽은 것을 조상하게 하니라 다윗의 신복들이 암몬 자손의 땅에 이르러 하눈에게 나아가 조상하매
3 But the princes of the children of Ammonsaid to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sentcomforters unto thee? are not his servantscome unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?[x]MKJV: But the rulers of the sons of Ammon said to Hanun, Is David honoring your father in your eyes, because he has sent comforters to you? Have not his servants come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land? BBE: But the chiefs of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Does it seem to you that David is honouring your father, by sending comforters to you? is it not clear that these men have only come to go through the land and to make secret observation of it so that they may overcome it? KAV: 암몬 자손의 통치자들이 하눈에게 이르되, 왕은 다윗이 왕의 아버지를 존경하기 때문에 왕에게 조문객들을 보낸 줄로 생각하시나이까? 그의 신하들이 땅을 엿보고 탐지하여 정복하려고 왕에게 오지 아니하였나이까? 하니
3 But the chiefs of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Does it seem to you that David is honouring your father, by sending comforters to you? is it not clear that these men have only come to go through the land and to make secret observation of it so that they may overcome it?
3 암몬 자손의 방백들이 하눈에게 고하되 왕은 다윗이 조문사를 보낸 것이 왕의 부친을 공경함인 줄로 여기시나이까 그 신복이 왕에게 나아온 것이 이 땅을 엿보고 탐지하여 함락시키고자 함이 아니니이까
4 Wherefore HanuntookDavid'sservants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away.[x]MKJV: And Hanun took David's servants and shaved them, and cut off their garments in half, to the buttocks, and sent them away. BBE: So Hanun took David's servants, and cutting off their hair and the skirts of their robes up to the middle, sent them away. KAV: 그러므로 하눈이 다윗의 신하들을 붙잡아 그들의 수염을 깎고 그들의 의복 한가운데를 도려내되 볼기가 있는 데까지 바싹 도려내고 그들을 돌려보내니라.
4 So Hanun took David's servants, and cutting off their hair and the skirts of their robes up to the middle, sent them away.
4 하눈이 이에 다윗의 신복들을 잡아 그 수염을 깎고 그 의복의 중동 볼기까지 자르고 돌려 보내매
5 Then there wentcertain, and toldDavid how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatlyashamed. And the kingsaid, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and thenreturn.[x]MKJV: And [some] came and told David how the men were treated. And he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Stay at Jericho until your beards are grown, and [then] return. BBE: Then certain men went and gave David word of what had been done to them. And he sent out with the purpose of meeting them; for the men were greatly shamed. And the king said, Keep where you are at Jericho till your hair is long again, and then come back. KAV: 그때에 어떤 이들이 가서 그 사람들이 당한 일을 다윗에게 고하니라. 그 사람들이 크게 부끄러워하므로 다윗이 그들을 맞으러 사람을 보내며 이르기를, 수염이 자라기까지 여리고에서 머물다가 그 뒤에 돌아오라, 하니라.
5 Then certain men went and gave David word of what had been done to them. And he sent out with the purpose of meeting them; for the men were greatly shamed. And the king said, Keep where you are at Jericho till your hair is long again, and then come back.
5 혹이 다윗에게 가서 그 사람들의 당한 일을 고하니라 그 사람들이 심히 부끄러워하므로 다윗이 저희를 맞으러 보내어 이르기를 너희는 수염이 자라기까지 여리고에 머물다가 돌아오라 하니라
6 And when the children of Ammonsaw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammonsent a thousandtalents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syriamaachahㆍ, and out of Zobah.[x]MKJV: And the Ammonites saw that they had made themselves stink before David, and Hanun and the Ammonites sent a thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia and out of Maachah of Syria, and out of Zobah. BBE: And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves hated by David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver as payment for war-carriages and horsemen from Mesopotamia and Aram-maacah and Zobah. KAV: ¶ 암몬 자손이 자기들이 다윗에게 미움 받을 일을 행한 것을 보고 하눈과 암몬 자손이 은 천 달란트를 보내어 자기들을 위해 메소포타미아와 시리아마아가와 소바에서 병거와 기병들을 고용하니라.
6 And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves hated by David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver as payment for war-carriages and horsemen from Mesopotamia and Aram-maacah and Zobah.
6 암몬 자손이 자기가 다윗에게 밉게 한줄 안지라 하눈이 암몬 자손으로 더불어 은 일천 달란트를 아람 나하라임과 아람마아가와 소바에 보내어 병거와 마병을 삯 내되
7 So they hiredthirty and twothousandchariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitchedbeforeMedeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.[x]MKJV: And they hired thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people, who came and pitched before Medeba. And the Ammonites gathered themselves from their cities and came to battle. BBE: So with this money they got thirty-two thousand war-carriages, and the help of the king of Maacah and his people, who came and took up their position in front of Medeba. And the children of Ammon came together from their towns for the fight. KAV: 이처럼 그들이 병거 삼만 이천 대와 마아가 왕과 그의 백성을 고용하였더니 그들이 와서 메드바 앞에 진을 치매 암몬 자손이 자기들의 도시들로부터 나와 함께 모여 싸우러 오므로
7 So with this money they got thirty-two thousand war-carriages, and the help of the king of Maacah and his people, who came and took up their position in front of Medeba. And the children of Ammon came together from their towns for the fight.
7 곧 병거 삼만 이천승과 마아가 왕과 그 백성을 삯 내었더니 저희가 와서 메드바 앞에 진 치매 암몬 자손이 그 모든 성읍으로 좇아 모여 와서 싸우려 한지라
8 And when Davidheardof it, he sentJoab, and all the host of the mighty men.[x]MKJV: And David heard, and he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men. BBE: And David, hearing of it, sent Joab with all the army of fighting-men. KAV: 다윗이 그것을 듣고 요압과 용사들의 온 군대를 보내매
8 And David, hearing of it, sent Joab with all the army of fighting-men.

9 And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were comewere by themselves in the field.[x]MKJV: And the sons of Ammon came out and put the battle in order before the gate of the city. And the kings who had come [were] by themselves in the field. BBE: So the children of Ammon came out and put their forces in position on the way into the town; and the kings who had come were stationed by themselves in the field. KAV: 암몬 자손은 나아와 도시의 성문 앞에서 전투대형을 갖추고 도우러 온 왕들은 따로 들에 있더라.

10 Now when Joabsaw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in arrayagainst the Syrians.[x]MKJV: And Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, and he chose out of all the choice young men of Israel and set in order against the Syrians. BBE: Now when Joab saw that their forces were in position against him in front and at his back, he took all the best men of Israel, and put them in line against the Aramaeans; KAV: 이제 요압이 자기를 치려고 앞뒤에서 싸움이 벌어지는 것을 보고는 이스라엘의 모든 택한 자들 중에서 택하여 시리아 사람들을 향해 전열을 갖추니라.
10 Now when Joab saw that their forces were in position against him in front and at his back, he took all the best men of Israel, and put them in line against the Aramaeans;
10 요압이 앞 뒤에 친 적진을 보고 이스라엘 뺀 자 중에서 또 빼서 아람 사람을 대하여 진 치고
11 And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in arrayagainst the children of Ammon.[x]MKJV: And he delivered the rest of the people into the hand of his brother Abishai. And they set in order against the sons of Ammon. BBE: And the rest of the people he put in position against the children of Ammon with Abishai, his brother, at their head. KAV: 또 그가 백성의 남은 자들을 자기 동생 아비새의 손에 넘겨주니 그들이 암몬 자손을 향해 전열을 갖추니라.
11 And the rest of the people he put in position against the children of Ammon with Abishai, his brother, at their head.
11 그 남은 무리는 그 아우 아비새의 수하에 붙여 암몬 자손을 대하여 진 치게 하고
12 And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.[x]MKJV: And he said, If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me. But if the sons of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you. BBE: And he said, If the Aramaeans are stronger and get the better of me, then come to my help; and if the children of Ammon get the better of you, I will come to your help. KAV: 그가 이르되, 만일 시리아 사람들이 나보다 강하면 네가 나를 도우려니와 만일 암몬 자손이 너보다 강하면 내가 너를 도우리라.
12 And he said, If the Aramaeans are stronger and get the better of me, then come to my help; and if the children of Ammon get the better of you, I will come to your help.

13 Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORDdothat which isgood in his sight.[x]MKJV: Be of good courage and let us behave ourselves bravely for our people, and for the cities of our God. And let the LORD do what is good in His sight. BBE: Take heart, and let us be strong for our people and for the towns of our God; and may the Lord do what seems good to him. 13 Take heart, and let us be strong for our people and for the towns of our God; and may the Lord do what seems good to him.

14 So Joab and the people that were with him drew nighbefore the Syrians unto the battle; and they fledbefore him.[x]MKJV: And Joab and the people with him drew near before the Syrians to the battle. And they fled before him. BBE: So Joab and the people who were with him went forward into the fight against the Aramaeans, and they went in flight before him. KAV: 요압과 그와 함께한 백성이 시리아 사람들 앞으로 싸우려고 가까이 나아가니 그들이 그 앞에서 도망하니라.

15 And when the children of Ammonsaw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fledbeforeAbishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joabcame to Jerusalem.[x]MKJV: And when the sons of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they also fled before his brother Abishai. And they entered into the city. And Joab came to Jerusalem. BBE: And when the children of Ammon saw the flight of the Aramaeans, they themselves went in flight from Abishai, his brother, and came into the town. Then Joab came back to Jerusalem. KAV: 암몬 자손이 시리아 사람들이 도망하는 것을 보고 자기들도 요압의 동생 아비새 앞에서 도망하여 도시로 들어가매 이에 요압이 예루살렘으로 오니라.
15 And when the children of Ammon saw the flight of the Aramaeans, they themselves went in flight from Abishai, his brother, and came into the town. Then Joab came back to Jerusalem.
15 암몬 자손은 아람 사람의 도망함을 보고 저희도 요압의 아우 아비새 앞에서 도망하여 성으로 들어간지라 이에 요압이 예루살렘으로 돌아오니라
16 And when the Syrianssaw that they were put to the worsebeforeIsrael, they sentmessengers, and drew forth the Syrians that werebeyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezerwentbefore them.[x]MKJV: And the Syrians saw that they were beaten before Israel, and sent messengers and drew forth the Syrians who [were] beyond the river. And Shophach the captain of the army of Hadarezer went before them. BBE: And when the Aramaeans saw that Israel had overcome them, they sent men to get the Aramaeans who were on the other side of the River, with Shophach, the captain of Hadadezer's army, at their head. KAV: ¶ 시리아 사람들이 자기들이 이스라엘 앞에서 진 것을 보고 사자들을 보내어 강 건너에 있던 시리아 사람들을 데려오매 하달에셀의 군대 대장 소박이 그들보다 앞서 가니라.
16 And when the Aramaeans saw that Israel had overcome them, they sent men to get the Aramaeans who were on the other side of the River, with Shophach, the captain of Hadadezer's army, at their head.
16 아람 사람이 자기가 이스라엘 앞에서 패하였음을 보고 사자를 보내어 강 건너편에 있는 아람 사람을 불러내니 하닷에셀의 군대 장관 소박이 저희를 거느린지라
17 And it was toldDavid; and he gathered all Israel, and passed overJordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in arrayagainst the Syrians, they fought with him.[x]MKJV: And it was told to David. And he gathered all Israel and passed over Jordan and came on them. And he set in order against them. And David set in order against the Syrians, and they fought with him. BBE: And word of this was given to David; and he got all Israel together and went over Jordan and came to Helam and put his forces in position against them. And when David's forces were in position against the Aramaeans, the fight was started. KAV: 어떤 이가 다윗에게 고하매 다윗이 온 이스라엘을 모으고 요르단을 건너 그들에게로 가서 그들을 마주보고 전투대형을 갖추니라. 이와 같이 다윗이 시리아 사람들을 마주보고 전투대형을 갖추매 그들이 다윗과 싸우더라.
17 And word of this was given to David; and he got all Israel together and went over Jordan and came to Helam and put his forces in position against them. And when David's forces were in position against the Aramaeans, the fight was started.
17 혹이 다윗에게 고하매 다윗이 온 이스라엘을 모으고 요단을 건너 아람 사람에게 이르러 저희를 향하여 진을 치니라 다윗이 아람 사람을 향하여 진을 치매 저희가 다윗으로 더불어 싸우더니
18 But the SyriansfledbeforeIsrael; and Davidslew of the Syriansseventhousandmen which fought inchariots, and fortythousandfootmenㆍ, and killedShophach the captain of the host.[x]MKJV: But the Syrians fled before Israel. And David killed seven thousand of the Syrians [in] chariots, and forty thousand footmen; and he killed Shophach the commander of the army. BBE: And the Aramaeans went in flight before Israel; and David put to the sword the men of seven thousand Aramaean war-carriages and forty thousand footmen, and put to death Shophach, the captain of the army. KAV: 그러나 시리아 사람들이 이스라엘 앞에서 도망하므로 다윗이 병거를 타고 싸우던 칠천 명과 보병 사만 명을 죽이고 또 그 군대 대장 소박을 죽이니라.
18 And the Aramaeans went in flight before Israel; and David put to the sword the men of seven thousand Aramaean war-carriages and forty thousand footmen, and put to death Shophach, the captain of the army.
18 아람 사람이 이스라엘 앞에서 도망한지라 다윗이 아람 병거 칠천승의 군사와 보병 사만을 죽이고 또 군대 장관 소박을 죽이매
19 And when the servants of Hadarezersaw that they were put to the worsebeforeIsrael, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrianshelp the children of Ammon any more.[x]MKJV: And the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were beaten before Israel, and they made peace with David and became his servants. And Syria was not willing to help the sons of Ammon any more. BBE: And when the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were overcome by Israel, they made peace with David and became his servants: and the Aramaeans would give no more help to the children of Ammon. KAV: 하달에셀의 종들이 자기들이 이스라엘 앞에서 진 것을 보고는 다윗과 화친하고 그의 종이 되었으며 시리아 사람들이 다시는 암몬 자손을 도우려 하지 아니하였더라.
19 And when the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were overcome by Israel, they made peace with David and became his servants: and the Aramaeans would give no more help to the children of Ammon.
19 하닷에셀의 신복이 자기가 이스라엘 앞에서 패하였음을 보고 다윗으로 더불어 화친하여 섬기고 이 후로는 아람 사람이 암몬 자손 돕기를 싫어하니라
