2 In the past, when Saul was king, it was you who went at the head of Israel when they went out or came in; and the Lord your God said to you, You are to be the keeper of my people Israel, and their ruler.
2 전일 곧 사울이 왕이 되었을 때에도 이스라엘을 거느려 출입하게 한 자가 왕이시었고 왕의 하나님 여호와께서도 왕에게 말씀하시기를 네가 내 백성 이스라엘의 목자가 되며 내 백성 이스라엘의 주권자가 되리라 하셨나이다 하니라
3 Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and Davidmade a covenant with them in Hebronbefore the LORD; and they anointedDavidking over Israel, according to the word of the LORDbySamuel.[x]MKJV: And all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron. 3 So all the responsible men of Israel came to the king at Hebron; and David made an agreement with them in Hebron before the Lord; and they put the holy oil on David and made him king over Israel, as the Lord had said by Samuel.

14 And they set themselves in the midst of thatparcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORDsavedthem by a greatdeliverance.[x]MKJV: And they set themselves in the midst of that place, and delivered it, and killed the Philistines. And the LORD saved [them] by a great deliverance. BBE: And he took up his position in the middle of the bit of land, and kept back their attack, and overcame the Philistines; and the Lord gave a great salvation. 17 And David, moved by a strong desire, said, If only someone would give me a drink of the water from the water-hole of Beth-lehem by the doorway into the town!

18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drewwater out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and tookit, and broughtit to David: but Davidwould not drinkof it, but poured it out to the LORD,[x]MKJV: And the three broke through the Philistine army and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem by the gate, and took [it], and brought [it] to David. But David would not drink it, but poured it out to the LORD. 19 And said, My Godforbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these threemightiest.[x]MKJV: And he said, May my God forbid me to do this thing. Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in danger? For they brought it with their lives. And he [was] not willing to drink it. These three mighty ones did these things. BBE: Saying, By my God, far be it from me to do this! How may I take as drink the life-blood of these men who have put their lives in danger? so he did not take it. These things did the three great men of war. 19 Saying, By my God, far be it from me to do this! How may I take as drink the life-blood of these men who have put their lives in danger? so he did not take it. These things did the three great men of war.

And in the Egyptian's hand [was] a spear like a weaver's beam. And he went down to him with a staff and wrenched the spear out of the Egyptians hand, and killed him with his own spear. BBE: And he made an attack on an Egyptian, a very tall man about five cubits high, armed with a spear like a cloth-worker's rod; he went down to him with a stick, and pulling his spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, put him to death with that same spear. 23 And he made an attack on an Egyptian, a very tall man about five cubits high, armed with a spear like a cloth-worker's rod; he went down to him with a stick, and pulling his spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, put him to death with that same spear.
